Emulation with true CRT output

Post by alphanu »

Hi guys

I though I would let you know about the work i've been doing for the last few months. I have been developing a true 15khz output to a CRT giving exact resolution and refresh of the arcade or console.

I don't think many people are aware about it, I'm not into self promotion but I believe it is something lots of people including myself will be really interested in.

It currently runs on windows, Linux and Raspberry Pi, I will add though that Linux is the best OS to run it on. There are nearly no limitations on Linux. I have evolved this work into displaying native 240p on a 31khz display on all these platforms. I feel like this is something that I've not seen before so may be of interest to you guys.

Here is a video showing a compassion of the original hardware compared to the emulation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnT0EXkCeMc&t=2s

Check out my YouTube channel, it has all my previous work and is updated weekly. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT73WE ... subscriber

I hope you guys like it.

Dude, this looks awesome :-D does this work with video cards that output vga? does the program cause any additional input lag that you know of? This could be really great for people who don t have the extron emotia.

That's a good question.

In Windows there is a noticeable lag. This is due the limitation of Windows refresh rates. Which mean the game refresh has to match a rounded number.

Linux on the other hand does not have this limitation. So I am able to set the refresh rates to 2 decimal places. This completely removes lag. It is down as low as 0.2 frames which is about 3 milliseconds. Its a good as playing the original console or arcade.

Yes this uses VGA out but will also work with HDMI, DVI and composite.

Isn't this exactly what CRT Emudriver/Switchres/GroovyMAME already does?
