RGB N64 - Arcadeforge Sync strike - Commodore 1084S-D1

Post by andykara2003 »

Hi all - I've tried to approach this problem before but haven't been able to suss it out. I want to connect an N64 outputting RGB scart to a Commodore 1084S-D1 monitor. The monitor inputs RGB via a 9 pin D-sub socket.

Some people find that they need to use a sync stripper with this monitor to get RGB to work and for some reason, others find that using a direct RGB connection works just fine (using a scart to 9 pin D-sub cable).

Unfortunately my monitor needs the sync stripper circuit. I have an Arcadeforge sync strike - a sync stripper unit that inputs via RGB scart and outputs via VGA (15 pin D-sub). I've tried to suss out the exact configuration of that output but my knowledge is a bit hazy in this area. The details of the Sync strike are here:

and here:

Does anyone know what kind of cable I'd need to connect the 15 pin D-sub VGA output of the Sync strike to the 9-pin D-sub RGB input connector of the monitor? I'm hoping there's a cable out there that does this or I'll have to resort to a custom cable.

Cheers.

Its just a long looking adapter.

Cant get a short one as wires need to cross over ect.

There's a good chance the N64 might work without the sync stripper, its sync levels are almost close enough.

Thank you! Is that definitely the right configuration for each device?

(Mine definitely doesn't work without a sync stripper - I tried it with a specific cable designed for the task)

Its a bog standard dsub9 to dsub15. I have to use one on for all of my native 640x480 monitors.

Will work fine on all monitors except some obscure Mac screens.

D1 is an awesome monitor too, but the ones I've had the pleasure to work with had slight linearity issues.
