Saturn Backup Ram Carts - Replacing the Labels

Post by Ashura »

Hi guys,

I've been picking up used Saturn Memory Carts, and they tend to be the most beat to heck things I've seen on Ebay. Mangled exteriors, yellowed plastic, but the worst part is usually the labels are also ripped off, yellowed, missing, or used. I've looked around for replacements and it seems no one has ever bothered to make some- my guess is there isn't a huge huge demand for them, and there's no real easy stopgap because the rounded edges are non-standard (more curved at the bottom.) Even still, I have enough carts with missing or used labels that I'd like to create some replacements. .)

So I went ahead and purchased a memory cart that still had the original packaging materials intact and went to work. I recreated the proper dieline for the labels as well as reconstructed the entire label in vectors as close to pixel perfect as possible.

After doing that, I thought... you know, all the labels don't HAVE to look like the originals. And some people might have mangled US Memory Carts which only had a single generic label on it. So I started prototyping some variants.

I'm curious what people would like to see on these variants (more data? simpler design? some art? etc.), and further, if people have any interest in any of this stuff at all. (Hopefully people who hate reprolabels will also understand why I want to make these, given the dwindling supply and usability

I'm also curious if anyone in the community knows of a good (cheap?) printer that would be able to do the custom dieline this would require. The prices I've found so far are around 10 bucks a sheet which is outrageously expensive for these.

Use a paper trimmer to cut the straight edges, then a 1/8" corner rounder for the top, a 1/4" corner rounder for the bottom.

That would work in a pinch, but I'd like to do some professional printing if I can find a good printer.
