What important differences between a Sony SSM/PVM?

Post by Skykid »

I've been offered a Sony SSM-20N5U, but I'm not sure what I'm being offered exactly. Looking at the information online it seems to be the same tech as a 20-inch PVM, but I'm not sure if there are any fundamental differences. One thing I noticed are the inputs on the back - it doesn't seem to have the same array as the PVM's I've seen before, and if I can't output BNC to SCART/VGA it's useless to me.

Appreciate your input. If it helps any, the service manual is here:

The SSM is listed right at the end, after the PVMs.

Thanks for the help!

Looks like S-Video and Composite only, no RGB input so no Scart or VGA.

Right, that's what I gathered from the inputs. But does that mean there's no native RGB output in the set and no way to get it to output RGB via the BNC connector?

I think (not positive) the SSM models are their cheaper security monitor type (very nice security monitors, but still not with the same functions as the higher end PVM's). If there's no RGB inputs on the back (which would be 4x BNC's for Red, Green, Blue, Sync) then it can't take RGB in any way, shape, or form (unless you happen to be really good with RGB modding these and can pull off some magic in that regard). I would look for another one if you're looking for a RGB capable set.
