Paranoid I might have damaged my equipment

Post by Xaranar »

So, in the midst of installing and troubleshooting an RGB bypass in my Mega Drive, I made the mistake of checking for continuity with my multimeter between the red output on the stock encoder and the red output on the bypass board, just to make sure the two weren't connected - only I did this whilst my Mega Drive and OSSC were powered on, and now, knowing that in continuity mode my multimeter passes a small current between the probes, I'm worried I might have damaged either my Mega Drive or my OSSC. Both of them seem to work fine, I mean, I get a little bit of noise on some colours that is barely noticeable when any console is connected to it, but that was present before my mishap, and is only really noticeable in 320x240 or 256x240 optimised mode, with the sampling rate and phase dialled in. The mega drive has faint vertical bars, too, in both generic 4:3 and 320x240 optimised mode - though again, it does it with both my SNES and my Mega Drive, and I'm fairly certain it has always done this, also I am to understand that this is called aliasing and is normal, and can't be completely eliminated. Can anyone put my mind at rest?

I'm not an expert. But if any damage were done it would have been a more cut & dry "this feature no longer works at all". Like "there's no more red at all", or "red is always maximum intensity", or "there's no video output at all".

Noise in the signal is usually due to subtleties in the design of the circuit. And damaging a component to produce a subtle interference without breaking something entirely is super unlikely.

Ah, thanks for that! Looks like I'm good to go, then.
