Are they 100Hz? Then they've got digital processing and lag.

Loewe VGA inputs bypass all the 100Hz circuitry and give you lag-free 60Hz 640x480, 720x480, 1024x576 and a few other resolutions...

Ameerican. Sony sets bypassed digital processing if you ran a 33.75kHz resolution over component. I think on Sep tubes you had to take the extra step of enabling a passthrough

Really? where are you? 4:3 25"~27" aren't too hard to find in France, the only difficulty is to make sure they're not 100Hz like most of the widescreen models.

It's clear that there's less and less to find on the internet, but a lot are still out there, got a couple from a school lately. But most are just taking the dust in people's houses, I've seen plenty just asking around (from the elderly mainly).
Another way is to make 'friends' with the local recycling dump manager, if there's one not too far away and they happen to have a corner for CRTs (also the best way to find PC CRTs)
My favourite are the cheap almost noname still-curved low-end 25"~27"~29" from the early 00's before everything went flat, they might be lame in terms of electronics but I've found more that got much lower mileage than your usual Sony, Panasonic etc, and they're lighter, with easier-to-fix geometry.

I would never bother with those widescreens, most I've tried sucked ass for old games and they weigh A TON.

Yeah, well at least they had SCART RGB inputs and they can do both PAL and NTSC so it's not 100% worse.

But yeah if you want stuff like Component 480p or S-Video, that's gonna be pretty tricky.

Australia was always in between, but slightly tilted to the American side. Grundig, Loewe, Metz, B&O, and other scart-equipped sets were available options, but also Sony, Panasonic, and Toshiba, etc. SD/HD widescreen sets and SD 4:3 sets with component inputs. As far as I can tell though, the US never had an HDCRT tv with RGBHV input, as had the mighty KV-HR36M31. I've found RGBHV input to be superior to component on it. Incidentally, Youtube's RGB Rob tested that model and found that it's input lag registered virtually the same as a "no lag" SD set - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2bZIeJCnXg. 4:44 will get you to the test.

Xyga is right to say that they suck for old (240p) games though.

Can't you get stuff from England? England has a pretty good selection of CRT, maybe not as good or as readily available as the US or Japan but it's at least on par with Germany's.

I don't think there'd be much of a difference between what we have here and what they have. Shipping CRTs just sounds like a bad idea too.
Oh, by "England" I was talking about ebay.co.uk, I didn't know you were looking for pickups only.

It should be fine to have them shipped in a flight case, just be sure to tell the seller to remove/unscrew the legs/stand (if there are any) before he puts it in the flight case for shipping.

Are you looking for professional or consumer grade CRTs? Consumer ones are not expensive.

ross wrote:Looking at eBay, do people even sell consumer sets on there?
Yeah.

For example, Sony Trinitron KV line:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from ... V&_sacat=0

50 GBP here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162814475173

Widescreen 100Hz. (unless you are looking for widescreen sets that are NOT 100Hz?)

With luck you'll find a good one in the next town, but of course to increase your chances never rule out 2~3 hours road trips (if the set's really worth it and the seller nice and cooperative)

Telling the people you know about your quest might help immensely also, this is how I got my best leads (and sets)

EDIT: considerably more search results with 'sony trinitron' terms.

ross wrote:Until I can find a good professional CRT for a decent amount less than an OSSC or XRGB-mini, yes, just talking about consumer sets.

All of those are collection only, or only post to UK addresses.
There you go:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372175705274

Only 500 GBP shipping to Ireland, a bargain.

If not there is this one:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222741446391

49.99 GBP shipping to Ireland
