FULLY Articulating TV mount (able to move up/down ~20"+)

Post by Dochartaigh »

Many flatscreen TV wall mounts can be pulled straight out from the wall a good bit, and then (at that same level) can be tilted up/down and left/right, but the height/level of the actual TV itself (say you measured from the floor up to the bottom of the TV and it's 48") - the bottom of the TV will ALWAYS be right around that same 48" height. I'm looking for a wall mount where you can pull the TV away from the wall and literally move the TV up and down a good 20" or more (so the bottom of the TV could be as low as 28" from the ground, or as high as 68" from the ground. My premise is I want to have my CRT monitors front and center, but if I want to play a more modern game on my much-larger flatscreen, I can pull the TV away from the wall and lower it in FRONT of the CRT's so it's at a nice and comfortable eye level.

I'm looking to do this with a 49" flatscreen, which is about ~30 pounds, and uses a 200x200mm VESA pattern mount (might go 43", 25 pound, 100X100mm VESA instead). Here's a quick diagram I drew up:

Something like these, but with a bit more movement. I think the problem is going to be getting enough distance from the wall (the BVM's are 22.5" deep, and I need to clear the wires coming out the back of them by at least 3" I think), and the drop needed is 20"...I don't think any of the below meet those requirements:

Has anybody done something like this? Which model did you use? Is it solid and stays in place once moved? These things seem to vary so much in price ($40 to $255+) I don't know what to get, and even if my proposed layout will even work. Hints, tips, suggestions are all welcome!

I'm basically doing this extravagant layout because I can ;) and because 20" CRT monitors are small now-adays, so I wanted 2x 20" for 2-player games, need a TATE monitor for Shmups of course, and had a bunch of extra 5 and 8" RGB PVM's I got for free so I thought it would be cool to be able to display all 7x of my systems I run at the same time for a cool presentation/conservation piece in my mancave.

really, You need something that slides out from the wall, and then pulls down otherwise it will hit your crts.

I havent seen one yet, but i basically had the same idea. Wouldnt it be cool to pull down a big flatscreen when i need it in front of the crt.

the closest thing ive seen that might accomplish what you want to do, is one of those wheeled flatscreen stands.

when your not using it you can just wheel it out of the way.

Not exactly the best idea, but it would work.

they also have some motorized tv mounts ive seen that mount on the ceiling, and your tv folds up flat with the ceiling. but they are expensive.

I always planned to build one modeled off one of those spring arm lamps but the strength of the springs would be enough to really damage something should they ever come loose. Could always put them inside hose/tubes to stop recoil.

How will it hit the CRT's? If I can find one with just a couple inches more clearance, and with the space I left in the center of the monitors for the arm of the TV mount to fit through, it should work perfectly fine (well, in theory at this point at least ;)

I was more-so looking to see if anybody has owned the kind of TV mounts I linked to and how they're working well for them. I don't want a wobbly POS or one that's going to cause my flatscreen to crash into a couple G's worth of BVM's.

I own that one.

It only does vertical tilt not suspension.

It would pull out to bring the Lcd on the same viewing field as the crt’s but would not cover them.

I would be very interested too see a solution as I would like to do something similar

On the right track I'd say, but I think it will struggle to clear the front of the BVM.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGI1Ge-Aj7A - Using that as a guide, he said that his mantle was around 9" deep. The back of the TV was at best double that distance when pulled down/out. Could be quite a few inches to make up somehow. If it was just an inch or so it wouldn't be too bad to use some sort of infill, but once we get into five inch territory......
