Legendary Wings 1cc NES

Hey all, well, it's time for a new SHMUP Master (it's been a bit). This time, I ended up tackling Legendary Wings on the NES. I don't see the game talked about that much on these forums (and it isn't on the high score list... why?) Maybe it's because it isn't a very hard game, and can be quite dull to watch at times. So rather than release the run verbatim, I decided to spice it up a bit by doing an overlay and a whole lot of animated segments to go along with it. For all the dull bonus rounds and "danger" dungeons I did things like this:

Yes, those are MegaMan 2 enemies... The similarities between Legendary Wings and MegaMan 2 I found quite funny. Both games were released the same year and shared a lot of assets, so I decided to capitalize on it. Anyway, this video took around a month to put together and I had quite a bit of fun doing it. I animated a lot of sprites and tried to create some pretty cool action set pieces that revolve around the boss fights in the game (since they are all in essence the same, I had to get creative).

As always, any thoughts or feedback is greatly appreciated!

Don't let the lack of a high score topic discourage you. There are holes to be found, especially if you play 80s stuff. I have a couple Alpha Denshi pcbs with no topic.

Or if you're so inclined, you can always start a topic there and get things started. :P

I never understood why Legendary Wings never had a score thread. Guess I'll make one in a bit.

Cool vid, but was it neccessary to open a new topic?

How about these existing ones:

I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...

General youtube shmup thread.

Anyway, good job!

I think Legendary Wings is solid enough to start talking about it :)

I actually bought the NES version recently - looks like it's a lot easier than the arcade version, but seems fun.

I suppose you have a point there.... Although the video is quite a bit more than just a simple 1cc run.. :D

And I agree that the game is worth talking about. It's a fun little NES romp.
