So yesterday I finally got to rearrange/cleanup my gameroom a bit and connect the XM29 which has been in storage for some months.
Initially everthing looked good, geometry is good as well, just the h/v size and position needed some tweaking.
But after I’ve been enjoying my RGB modded NES with Everdrive for half an hour or so, the colors turned to a slighty purplish tint and after a while to dark purplish tint.
Switching from input source and back on the monitor fixed it for a few minutes.
Same thing happens with my SNES, so the issue would be in the monitor.
Everything is connected via a gscartsw->scart->bnc (RGB2 input on the monitor).
What do you think? Failing caps in the RGB/color section of the monitor?
Anyone ever recap one of these beasts?

Re: Shifting colors on Nec XM29
have you tried the RGB1 (dsub15) port on the monitor? and what about Video1 (composite) which is running off a different PCB than the 2xRGB ports on the monitor? same problem via composite?
maybe there is just something wrong with the rgb pcb which will save you some good hours or even days of finding the problem deeper inside the monitor.
one of these xm29 rgb boards was sold on ebay last week. it was listed there for almost 2 years....but maybe it was you who bought it
...just hinking..

luckily I never really had to recap one of my xm29s.... once I had to replace a transistor on the horizontal sync board. but it took me ages until I realized that the new transistor (crappy china one) I installed wasnt of good quality and needed to be replaced with one of proper quality. never had a piece of electronic that was so picky

I only used the RGB2 BNC inputs up to now, I briefly tried the RGB1 VGA input and the screen looked a bit darker so I had to increase the brightness.svensonson wrote:have you tried the RGB1 (dsub15) port on the monitor? and what about Video1 (composite) which is running off a different PCB than the 2xRGB ports on the monitor? same problem via composite?

I will try the other inputs for a longer period to see if these have the same purplish tint after a longer period of time...
It wasn't me who bought the stuff from ebay, wish I did now I see it there for decent prices
I remember the issue you had with the collapse, I still have the contact details of the guy in Germany who fixed it for you, so I might give him a call as well

Thanks mate!
Tested briefly again yesterday evening, also get some sync issues sometimes on the BNC inputs (also with a sync stripper and with consoles which worked the day before...)
Tried the RGB1 VGA connection and everything runned flawlessly for over an hour, will test longer tomorrow.
