Gigawing Generations from Hong Kong

Post by jpolz »

There an ebay auction I'm watching who is selling Gigawing Generations for a low price. I contacted him about why the price was so low (basically asking him if they were burned backups).

This was his response.....
Its not some cheap burned back up. its copy from hong kong, the disc is silver not some purple dvdr. Its not like a US ps2 or Japanese ps2. Again its from HK. I do not burn these or so. If you're stuck with original, I suggest not buying this. Thanks
So it sounds to me like this isn't an "official" copy, but isn't a cheap burned DVDR/CDR either.

Thoughts?

No doubt. I'm just curious if it would still be worth the small price, considering it's on an actual silver DVD disc, not recordable media.

Are there any drawbacks?

Aside from supporting criminal activity you mean? Do the shmup world a favour - if you want the game, buy it legit. Sales in this genre do actually matter.

It's a Hong Kong Silver meaning it was pressed illegal in a factory.
They are usualy sold with just the disc and inlay covers, no box.

I have to agree...even in the unlikely event these will run on an unmodded jps2, fucking over shmups companies (and the resale value, if you don't like the game) isn't worth the money saved.

And its not like Gigawing Generations is expensive, as Playasia has a "limited time offer" on it for $39.90.

Go ahead and buy the "yeah" HK bootleg copies if you want. It's your money and morals. They're so cheap they can't even mimick the instructions. But if you don't care, go ahead. I'm not sure why you're not just downloading the games in that case but if your mind convinces you that the bootlegs are "official" enough, then it's your call.

might as well burn it yourself.

a friend of mine bought a couple of "HK-originals" and sure the game works but everything else looks like shit, cover, manual (folded a4) and disc prints look terrible.

personally i dont support pirate activity so i would advice against it anyways..

Well it might be a official release. :?

Since the sale of Gigawing Generations is so poor that stores here once dumps their stock as low as HK$180, that is US$23 at the current exchange rate. :o

If the seller is selling a second hand copy, it might be a official release. :)

But yet Gigawing Generations does not got a official Asian Version and it was only release on CD-ROM (Purple disc), it still sounds like a bootleg. :x

I think it's genuine, $39.99 isn't exactly cheap, if it's now the same HK dealer that is.

HK silver bootlegs are not original and need a modded PS2

Probably a boot. The guy didn't give you a straight answer really. "the disc is silver", and he said "HK"...so, I can only imagine "HK silver", which is just a term for a factory pressed bootleg. (and yes, you do need a modchip for that) Guessing if it were an original, he would've specified. I know whenever I see an original that's being shipped out of HK, the seller always states in big bold letters: ORIGINAL NOT BOOTLEG, or something to that effect. Piracy's so rampant there, I think most sellers feel the need to state "original".
