Hi guys, I am putting together a groovymame setup using a Sony BVM (and a JVC for vert games).
I've seen that having an extron RGB is super useful, but just wondering which I can use. The models 201 through 203 all look the same to me, but just wondering what the differences are? Seems most people have a 203, but the 201 and 202 come up more often.
Thanks in advance.
Which Extron RGB should I buy? 201, 202 or 203?

201 and 203 are technically the same. The 203 includes a 3:1 input switch, so yo can connect three sources.
The 202 is the predecessor and has a non standard DIN9 RGB input of a "VGA" port. If you got a choice, then avoid the 202.
If you don't need the vertical shift controls, then there are dozens of other interfaces to choose from. The 164xi for example has an integrated 1:2 splitter which can come in handy for (PC to interface to BVM *and* JVC).

Thanks for the fast reply.
Could the DIN9 input issue with the 202 be overcome with a simple adapter? If so which adapter would I need.

You can build an adapter. Original Extron adapters were available as well, but are usually rare and not exactly cheap.

Just wondering about the later models, like the 204 and onwards? Do they start to become less useful for our types of functionality? Thnx again.

The 204 isn't a RGB interface, hence the "DVS" 204 name, instead of Extron RGB 201. These don't serve the same purpose and can't be compared.
Really depends on what you to do. Usually you don't need a 201/203, but can go with a simple 190 instead.

Re: Which Extron RGB should I buy? 201, 202 or 203?
I've finally tracked down a 203!
Im running a CRT_Emudriver setup out to a Sony BVM at 1 to 1 pixel ratios (mainly 384x224 to 256x224 range), so I don't want any resolution conversion, just to cleanly combine HV into S. What settings do I need on the 203 to essentially pass through like this?
Also, the Extron website description states:
"30 memory locations for automatic signal setup — Memory presets for recall later allow saving size, position, and detail information for multiple incoming sources."
Does that mean I can use these settings like the in-monitor geometry settings for a single output mode, or is this referring to it being able to have different settings for combinations of different inputs / outputs?
I would really love more savable geometry modes, at the moment i only have 2 modes on my BKM-BVM, 4:3 Normal and Underscan so it would be great if the RXI can add more.
I've also asked if I buy a memory card for my BKM unit, would it save extra geometry settings for the same resolution but not got a definite answer from anyone yet. People seem to confirm you can save multiple color settings to the card though..
