Choke!
Choke!
ARGH! Possibly the worst part about shooters is the inevitable, continual choking the occurs. it used to happen to me all the time in Ikaruga, where I'd chain the first two stages, then promptly choke and break my chain 4 or 5 times on stage 3... now ESP Galuda is doing it to me. I started replaying it recently in an attempt to push for the 1cc. Unfortunately, I always ALWAYS screw up on some stupid part that I normally would ace. Just a moment ago I was on a possible high score breaking run. I no missed the first 4 stages and proceeded to lose 5, count 'em FIVE, lives on 5-1, but only one on the boss.... sometimes, life gets you down so much that you just wish Flanders was dead.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing lately, jumping into my replays to practice the rough spots. I don't have much time to play, usually I only play one full credit per day and maybe a few stage practices, so the progress is pretty slow going.Dave_K. wrote:I'd look at 4 stages of no miss as a good accomplishment. Did you save the replay? You could then replay it up to the point in level 5 before you starting dying then jump in and finish it, proving your could have 1cc'd it.

When I don't horribly choke, I usually start getting tripped after the egg with wings. Specifically, the spray where elongated bullets curtain down from the upper left corner toward the lower right corner. After that I fall apart.ill6 wrote:This morning I just got to 5-1 without loss of life for the first time ever... I also got to the final boss for the first time (my score still sucks though)... Thing is, I have not played for a week and I seem to do better with long gaps - wierd!

Flashbacks of Gradius IV, where I'd continually get to the bubble level on one life, then lose all my power ups and throw the controller down in disgust.PFG 9000 wrote:I've been known to 1 life the first five or six levels of various Gradius games only to crash into a wall when there are no enemies around. And I do it quite reliably too!
