Hi guys,
A friend just gave me a PAL Xbox (circa 2001 model).
I've never had an Xbox in any shape or form before and was wondering what the best way to play Outrun 2 is on this console.
I know a modder nearby but was wondering if any modding is necessary to get the best out of Outrun 2.
If I bought the PAL version would it run in 480p just like the arcade machine if modded?
What are the best component cables for this console currently available?
I might get Orta as well if the replies are favourable.
Thank you.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Most of the Xbox library is capable of higher resolutions than 480i (link), so yeah modding is recommended. I sold my Xbox and don't know much about that but here's a guide. The official component cable is readily available on ebay.co.uk for less than £10.
Don't stop to Orta, there are a few other good exclusives for the original Xbox (Otogi 1/2, Metal Wolf Chaos, Steel Battalion with its ridiculous controller), as well as the best versions of most multi-platform games.
Edit: It's also worth to mention that the Xbox is still the best console for emulation, behind the Wii (due to no 240P output).

Not much to see. The 480p/etc dashboard options are just gone, they stripped the user side of the PAL OS.
Although I've never attempted this, region-free PAL games that kept 480p mode intact would support it on an NTSC console.
I also can't speak from experience how 50hz-only games behave on NTSC. The NTSC dashboard instead has no 576i setting.

You need to buy component av cables, then mod, or softmod your console, after that you can run "Enigmah's Video Select - Xbox Region Switcher NTSC /PAL" to change your console from Pal to NTSC, after that you go to original dashboard, and if the Component cables are connected you can then enable progressive resolutions: 480p, 720p and 1080i also. Launch your outrun 2 game PAL or NTSC, it will play in 480p glory
