PS1 mystery modchip

Post by Star1 »

So, a while a go a friend gave me his old chipped Playstation (a Pal unit, 5552).
It worked well enough, though lately it has had some issues reading cd-r's (adjusted the laser, but that's another story).

Today I opened it up to perform a C-sync mod, which was a success.
I was however, surprised to see that several of the wires of the modchip were loose, even the 5v wire...
First I figured I had pulled them loose when opening the console, but I tested after the C-sync mod, and it still boots burnt games.

Is this normal, or should I worry that something is amiss? Finding diagrams for modhcips is one thing, but I've had a hard time finding schematics for my ps1 model.

For reference, the green wire goes to pin 2 of the controller/memory card flexi cable connector.
