Currently I run at 20 stone. I have always wanted a large tatoo on my back and one on each arm. The trouble is I have always wanted to lose weight (I'm only 5ft 8inch) and if I have the tattoo done, then lose weight, it will go out of shape and look stupid. If I lose weight have the tattoo done, and then put the weight back on (as most people do) then it goes out of shape.

So I have promised myself that if I manage to get to 13 stone and stay there for 2 years then I will have my tattoos.

On my back I will have the Salamander picture, with the Japanese writing, fire and everything. All over my back.

On my left arm I will have a Space Invader and on my right arm I will have either Dirk the Daring with Daphne, Ryu in his "I've just twatted you" pose, or Strider in one of his poses, or Pac Man, or maybe the ship out of asteroids (i.e. a triangle), or maybe the Vic Viper from Salamander, or maybe Borf (mwahahahahahaaaaa) or maybe Singe the dragon, or maybe the dude out of Dig Dug, or maybe .the great and mighty poo, or maybe I-Robot, or maybe an Atari logo, or maybe Chun Li, or maybe Rick Dangerous or maybe.....

I've got plenty of time to work it out, but for sure it's Salamander on my back.

Cheers

That's a great idea. I got some tattoos already; so it wouldn't hurt too much add one more. But I need somehing I can bother to watch for the rest of my days; I must also design it myself... gotta think about it..

PS. to comment discussion above - having a tattoo is a great way to pressure oneself to watch after their weight.. you definitely dont want your pic to go out of shape..

i have no idea how much a "stone" is but unless youre really obiese its not gonna matter.
sounds like a cool idea, however i hope youve thought it thru once you go under the needle cause a huge salamander backplate is not something people around you are going to understand.

back in the days when we were young and stupid and got tattoos after school my friends mom freaked out and tried to scrub his tattoo off with sandpaper :P and that was just a small star on the shoulder... imagine what she'd have done to a salamander backplate

I'd love a good Gradius tattoo, aye. Something from Gradius II, probably. I'm not overly keen on having the Vic Viper (or any other 'spaceship') tattooed onto me, but if I ever think of a good idea, I'll go for it.

As for tattoos I'm sure about, I currently have big plans for a Metroid backpiece. I haven't decided on exactly what it's going to be, but it's definitely going to be in the vein of the Japanese box art for Super Metroid (although much, much more evocative of Super Metroid's core atmosphere and nuances).

A stone is 12 pounds, or at least I think it is. So 20*12 pounds = 240 pounds. I don't know what that is in Kg. That's me in my Avatar. A bit stretched but still me.

I don't mind whether other people understand it or not, hence the triangle idea. No one will understand Borf or Strider or any of them really, except for the odd person as I'm walking down the beach or whatever might clock it as Salamander. I don't mind really, it's what I've alwyas wanted adn I'm not going to do it to impress anybody else.

As for my mum, I'm 35, and more importantly (because age means nothing to mothers), 2 hours away from her so I'm quite safe in that regard!

Cheers

Though I'm not hardcore enough to get a shmup related tattoo, I often go about with a 1/250 scale model of the Vic Viper jammed up my left nostril.

someone should get a gradius fire dragon tattoo, one that wraps all around the torso, and then give me credit for the idea.

I would have liked to have the Salamander artwork near the top of one of my arms but that space is already taken up by some fish and some generic looking flaming skulls. I couldnt stand to have a back piece done, the pain of my tiny Star Wars logo was unbearable.

I'd really like something Gradius, Thunder Force or Ikaruga related.

This thread is so... coincidental. I was planning on getting my back done pretty soon (i.e. as soon as i can afford it) with an image of the vic viper squaring off against Moai gaurding the big core battleship. Some of you guys have seen my art so i'm sure you have a pretty good idea of what it will look like...

This piece isn't even finished... but i'm even better working with colors...

If I was going to do this, the only one I'd consider would be the Salamander logo-that would definately rock! :D

If I were crazy enough to do such a thing, I'd probably have a Black Ikaruga on my Right arm, a White Ginkei on my Left, and Radiant Silvergun on the back of my neck.

That's about the exact same position I am in. I am roughly the same length and weight (maybe a bit more even) and have the same doubts about getting a tattoo and losing/gaining weight. :(

I am not much in a hurry about losing the overweight atm, and if I stay around this weight for say two more years I am gonna bite the bullet and get a tattoo. Pretty much certain about getting an image of Pentarou (see my avatar) either on my shoulder or upper arm. Shmupswise I've got no proper ideas yet (well maybe I could the pentarou image from the Parodius games! :? --- yes I love that little penguin 8))

Ok, ok...in the next "Twitchrod video", I'll include a snap of my tat...
Its "SS" for Chevy Super Sport, but some think its the Nazi shit... No!
It could also be Sega Saturn, Super Sexy(I like) or Star Soldier!!! :)

See ya!

PS: Don't get a tat if you really don't want to...everyone has em now, and you are simply going along with everyone else if you choose to get one. Its no longer original, or unique.

Yeah, like the billion and a half people with a so called "tribal" tattoo. :?
I pity the people who were among the first to get one of those. They were original but were caught up by the masses (being one of the thirteen in the dozen) and will have to live with that fact for all their lives now.
Same with all the girls getting the tribal tattoo above their "crack" (sorry couldn't think of a better word). I actually find girls having one of those somewhat repulsive, even if my first impression of them might have been very good this is always a letdown to me.

If you get a tattoo, I think you'd better get one with a very personal meaning for yourself. Something that makes you YOU and says something about you.
Just my 2$ though...

@ Twitch, just be glad you aren't into ancient Indian religion/culture (Hindu for example) stuff and got a Swastika. Now THAT would be even more difficult to explain over here in the west. ;)

Ankle tattoos are the best. They're discreet and in a place that doesn't change much when your weight goes up and down. Closer to the bone is supposed to hurt more, though :? [not that I have one, this is what a friend told me]

I was waiting for those animated tattoos to be perfected, so I could get the blinking DDR arrows  or a nice bullet pattern :)

I've heard that area referred to on many occasions as the small of the back.

Get married! I went from 9 stone to 11 1/2! Trouble is it has all gone on my stomach. Mind you, I don't do any exercise.
