Re: Questions about XSelect-d4, Soia, Displ, Selecty 21
Not sure if I posted it in the right sub-forum (if not, I’m sorry for that) or if the "consoles chain" wasn’t written properly.
Since I haven’t buyed the transcoder (XSELECT D4) and the switch (SELECTY 21) yet I’m asking you if it could be possible to create that kind of connection between consoles, switches, transcoders and monitors.

Re: Questions about XSelect-d4, Soia, Displ, Selecty 21
You might want to rethink which systems you actually want to process for which screens.
For example: there's no point in rescaling the output of a XBOX for your Sony FW900.
Also you can't use the SOIA's VGA input for 15khz RGB sources from your scart switches. The SOIA unfortunately doesn't accept 15khz RGB in any form (other than component).

Re: Questions about XSelect-d4, Soia, Displ, Selecty 21
Thank you so much for you answer Fudoh!
SUPERGRAFX, NT MINI , SNES JR. GB--->JOYTECH scart switch--->eu-jp21 adapter--->XSELECT D4--->(via VGA) SOIA (for the upscale).
I don't want to use the XSELECT D4 d-terminal/component output because I'd like to use it to connect it to the wonderful (like you wrote) component input of the Sony W6.
What do you think of the "chain" built around the Displ?
Is it necessari to route the gscartsw_lite ---> eu-jp21 adapter ---> Selecty 21 (to avoid: "Using a Euro-Scart cable from my PS2 and adding a EU to JP21 adapter did not work, while using a genuine japanese RGB did work right away. My adapter does not pass the 5V signal nor are all ground pins connected.")?
If not I will not buy the Selecty and use just 2 gscartsw_lite.
In my chain I'd like to route 15 khz rgb sources (Supergrafx, Nt Mini and Snes Jr.) in the XSelect-D4, transcode the signal and then input in the SOIA. Because like you said before:Fudoh wrote: Also you can't use the SOIA's VGA input for 15khz RGB sources from your scart switches. So the chain will be like this:Fudoh wrote: Compatibility of the D4: PSP works, Cube works, doesn't matter if component, D-Terminal or VGA, the D4 takes all three. PS2 works fine via component or D-Terminal. 240p or 480i RGBs input signals are running through the sync processor and are output as 15khz RGBHV. I'm not sure what you want with this kind of signal.

Re: Questions about XSelect-d4, Soia, Displ, Selecty 21
still won't work, since the SOIA doesn't accept 15khz on the RGBHV/VGA input. That input isn't even routed through the deinterlacer. But you can use a YUV splitter after the transcoder to get SGX and SNES into the SOIA. For the Nt Mini - why bother with the low-res output when you directly get HDMI at the resolution you want ?SUPERGRAFX, NT MINI , SNES JR. should be fine. What do you think of the "chain" built around the Displ?

Re: Questions about XSelect-d4, Soia, Displ, Selecty 21
I haven't bought the Nt Mini yet (I'm waiting the complete "cores" release) but I think is a good deal now (great work by Kevtris with the "jailbreak" firmware).Fudoh wrote:For the Nt Mini - why bother with the low-res output when you directly get HDMI at the resolution you want ?
I've only got a Twin Famicom rgb-playchoice modded (bought from Japan) and with the Mini NT I will play NTSC-PAL (with the right timing for pal-only Turrican and Mario!) with the Firebrand palette in one device (with the bonus of GG games, without any mod on a real console).
My idea is to output the HDMI signal of the Nt in my Sony W6 (same model as yours) and, at the same time, output the analog-rgb signal (240p upscaled by the SOIA to 480p) in the Sony Gdm FW900, for a more "true to the original" look.
What do you think about?
Thanks! so this will work, right?Fudoh wrote:still won't work, since the SOIA doesn't accept 15khz on the RGBHV/VGA input. That input isn't even routed through the deinterlacer. My goal for this "gamestation" is to have all routed using only the SOIA and the XSELECT-D4, without adding anything more to the chain, but the problem is that I need two outputs (one via component to the Sony W6, the other via VGA to the GDM FW900).
Is it possible to use just a simple converter (like the dvi to vga, not a transcoder) to output component from the DVI output of the SOIA?
It will be the perfect solution...
Since my DISPL is in Japan at the moment and I cannot test anything, I'm a little bit worried by this:Fudoh wrote:should be fine. What do you think of the "chain" built around the Displ?

Because if I will chain two gscartsw_lite (hope to buy soon) and use my retrogamingcables eu-jp21 adapter I will not use a genuine japanese RGB.

Re: Questions about XSelect-d4, Soia, Displ, Selecty 21
I was first holding off since I already have the Analogue Nt (non-mini), but with the reviews of the Mini pouring in, it seems REALLY great. GG and SMS with FM sound are such a great opportunity. I'll get one soon.I haven't bought the Nt Mini yet
I don't think that's neccessary. You can always go down to a 480p or 720p output AND you have full geometry control on the FW900, so I would connect it directly. After all you have two inputs on the FW900 - use them.My idea is to output the HDMI signal of the Nt in my Sony W6 (same model as yours) and, at the same time, output the analog-rgb signal (240p upscaled by the SOIA to 480p) in the Sony Gdm FW900, for a more "true to the original" look.
I don't think so. While most VPs can output analogue HD component, I don't remember seeing the option on the SOIA. You can however go from DVI-D to component using a really cheap active converter (25 EUR).Is it possible to use just a simple converter (like the dvi to vga, not a transcoder) to output component from the DVI output of the SOIA?
I don't think the gscartsw's output relies on the 5V present on the input. I don't have one, but I assume that the 5V are present no matter if your input signals carries it or not.Because if I will chain two gscartsw_lite (hope to buy soon) and use my retrogamingcables eu-jp21 adapter I will not use a genuine japanese RGB.

Re: Questions about XSelect-d4, Soia, Displ, Selecty 21
My problem is that I'm not going to output straight from gscartsw (or whichever scart switch I will use) and the rgb signal will go through my retrogamingcables eu-jp21 adapter before entering the DISPL. Even in this case I don't have to worry about 5V?Fudoh wrote:I don't think the gscartsw's output relies on the 5V present on the input. Does the DVI standard carry the YPbPr signal (like it carries the RGBHV-VGA)?
I'd like to use the component input of my W6 mainly for its quality and the great upscaling (not the fullscreen, the medium one) with my psp go: is it worth in your opinion (or better go straight with a simple DVI>HDMI and use the zoom function of the SOIA with the psp)?
I haven't read yet if the Nt Mini applies scanlines on the analog output via vga (480p). If it does yours wil be the perfect solution.Fudoh wrote:I don't think that's neccessary. Do you think that a professional CRT monitor (like the Lacie Electron IV or GDM FW900) with a Displ (fake scanlines) at 480p can reach the same "image quality" of a BVM with 900 Television Lines?
Because my "project" with the Lacie and the Displ was born when I saw these amazing pics from Blair:

TG16 probably won't be done on here, neither will neogeo or snes and genesis because of the RAM bandwidth issue (and lack of LE's). The Z3K of course is going to remedy those situations.
Neogeo pocket is an x86 based machine which looks scary, so I dunno if I will tackle it.

A bit disappointed for the pc engine but the Zimba3000 is a great project.

Re: Questions about XSelect-d4, Soia, Displ, Selecty 21
that depends on your EU-JP21 adapter. If it's a universal adapter, then 5V will be passed just fine. If it's a XRGB-exclusive adapter then it might be missing the 5V line.My problem is that I'm not going to output straight from gscartsw (or whichever scart switch I will use) and the rgb signal will go through my retrogamingcables eu-jp21 adapter before entering the DISPL. that's an adapter, not a converter. Thanks! Is this one any good?
no and as said the SOIA doesn't seem to offer component output.Does the DVI standard carry the YPbPr signal (like it carries the RGBHV-VGA)?
looks nice. Not as good as a Framemeister or XRGB-3, but way better than any other VP.I'd like to use the component input of my W6 mainly for its quality and the great upscaling (not the fullscreen, the medium one) with my psp go: is it worth in your opinion
The Nt Mini doesn't have a 480p VGA output, but it does render scanlines at 480p through HDMI and from there you go into the FW900.I haven't read yet if the Nt Mini applies scanlines on the analog output via vga (480p). If it does yours wil be the perfect solution.
it's VERY similar. The scanlines look a tad different, but I had a FW900 and with scanlines it looks very much like a BVM.Do you think that a professional CRT monitor (like the Lacie Electron IV or GDM FW900) with a Displ (fake scanlines) at 480p can reach the same "image quality" of a BVM with 900 Television Lines?
