Hi all,
I'm interested in running the 240p testsuite for both SNES and Genesis and looking to what is the best (most reliable/plug and play) SD reader that works with the 240p testsuite.
Best SD reader for SNES and Genesis?

Re: Best SD reader for SNES and Genesis?
There's a bit of a misunderstanding here: there isn't such a thing as an "SD reader" for those consoles. What there is are flashcarts that support SD storage.
Most people would agree that the best available flash cart for the SNES is the SD2SNES, which retails for $197. People who want to save some money (at the cost of running a few less games and missing some features like MSU1 music/FMV support) usually opt for the Super Everdrive, which costs $86 to $106 depending on if you get the DSP module included (needed for a bunch of popular games).
A chart detailing the difference between the two can be found here: http://krikzz.com/pub/support/var/compa ... rdrive.png
For the Sega Genesis, people will typically choose the Mega EverDrive X3 ($49), the Mega EverDrive X5 ($89), or the Mega EverDrive X7 ($166).
A chart detailing the differences between the three can be found here: http://krikzz.com/pub/support/var/compa ... s-edmd.png
People who just want to run the 240p test suite will get a cheap repro cart with it. I paid $13 plus shipping for my copy of the SNES 240p test suite.

The two best locations for them are, from what I've heard, Krikzz' store (https://krikzz.com/store/) and Stone Age Gamer (http://www.stoneagegamer.com/)
Krikzz is the guy who develops the EverDrive series of products, and he tends to put out basic versions of them. He also sells the SD2SNES, which wasn't developed by him, but he produces PCBs for them. Stone Age Gamer tends to focus on doing a bit more deluxe versions of the products: nicer shells (or actually having shells, since Krikzz sells some of his products with just the bare PCB), more customization options, other pack-in stuff, etc. They also ship from the US, while Krikzz ships from Ukraine.
Krikzz also has a list of official distributors here:

EDIT: Sorry, I missed the quoted text being where to get a repro board. I got mine from what is now called RetroCircuits.com. They sell the 240p test suite for $20 here:
https://www.retrocircuits.com/product/240p-test-suite/
My copy was cheaper because I got a bare PCB using a spare prototype board they had lying around (this was before they sold it officially) They do good work, though, check them out.
For the Sega Genesis, db-electronics sells it, although it looks like he's out of stock:

Re: Best SD reader for SNES and Genesis?
Pro tip: Do not buy an Everdrive flash cart from ebay. Buy an official cart from Krikzz.
The support forums over at krikzz.com has a really funny post about clones, but I bet it's not so funny for the poor sods that bought one.

Just ordered the SNES 240p test suite. Any other source for the genesis version?

Re: Best SD reader for SNES and Genesis?
René (db-electronics guy) tweeted recently that he just got a big shipment of stuff in, so things should be back in stock very soon. I don't know specifically if the Genesis 240p test suite is included in that, though.
RetroCircuits does custom requests and they do Genesis carts, so you could try asking them to do a Genesis 240p build. Won't have a nice label on it, though
