So, this is actually for a friend of mine, but are there any Elgato HD60 Pro users that have managed to get a Dreamcast to work from a VGA box with a VGA to HDMI converter with the card? He got a strange error saying that 480p59.94 was not supported on his card. Is there anything that can be done to make work? I'll post some pics of what is being used. The adapter bought was https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K4 ... UTF8&psc=1
The HD60 Pro does not support 640x480. There is technically no reason why it shouldn't work, but Elgato will not add support because it would hurt sales of their other products, like the original Game Capture HD. Your only option is to buy a VGA to HDMI converter that can upscale to 720p/1080p. Or you could buy something like a PEXHDCAP and that will support 640x480 VGA. I've just sold my HD60 Pro because of its shocking lack of support for anything other than 720/1080.
If you decide to get a VGA to HDMI upscaler, the cheapest option is something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221462605982
Be aware that these cheap converters will butcher the colour. Everything will have a horrible green tint over it.
It apparently supports 720x480, but for whatever reason, they refuse to add support for 640x480. Other than that, the entire HD60 line only supports 720i/p or 1080i/p
On the official Elgato page it says that 480p in SMPTE timings (720x480p) is supported, just not VESA (640x480p), which is silly of course. So technically you could record a DC if your converter provided the right output resolution. Using a OSSC it should work on the HD60Pro (without upscaling).
There is no really cheap way though. If you can find an affordable RGBHV to component transcoder and use a component to HDMI box ($20) with that, it would work as well.
Yeah thats pretty much why I've decided to sell my HD60 Pro. There is no reason why it can't support 640x480, if it can support 720x480 just fine. No excuse other than laziness/greed.
No different than removing support for 240p capture so Micomsoft could sell more Framemeisters, at least Elgato is upfront about what the product does.

Wow that is pretty disgusting. To remove a feature that was previously present just to make money from a different product
it'll record Gamecube and Wii, just not Dreamcast VGA. But yes, theres technically no reason why it can't record 640x480. I sold mine and bought a PEXHDCAP
