Searching for a VGA to SCART converter

Post by shawly »

Hi guys,

I'm planning to connect my Retro Gaming PC with my new Bang & Olufsen MX4000.
The only thing is, I haven't found any converter except the Kramer FC-14 which would cost me 500€..
I just found a VGA to Composite converter but AFAIK the quality wouldn't be as good as with RGBs.

Isn't there anything else that doesn't cost more than 200€?

Thanks in advance!

The Kramer FC-14 doesn't help you. It's an RGB to YPbPr converter.

What you want is something like the UMSA. Here's the orginial thread: UMSA - Ultimate Scart Adapter for MAME PC and TVs

Awesome! Thanks, I'm glad I asked before buying anything phew.

I'm currently using an AMD HD6950 which should support the output of 15Khz, but I'm planning to get a newer card sometime soon so do I need the Soft15KhzDongle?

UMSA is the right device if you're able to set your PC to output 15khz RGBHV already.

If you can't do that you need a scan converter which can convert your PC's 31khz VGA output to something your PC understands, like 15khz 240p.

Which one is it ?

I haven't tested if my PC can output 15Khz, but since the Soft15Khz dongle just costs 17€ I'm thinking about just buying it, even if I might not need it.

I'm using RetroArch on Ubuntu btw. but AFAIK it's possible to output 15Khz on Linux too.

I don't think that it's that easy. From my understanding a soft-15khz dongle still does only provide 15khz functionality if the card (technically) supports it. Same thing as drivers on their own (CRT Emu Driver) can achieve.

Which video card do you use in your setup ?

At the moment I'm using my Radeon HD6950, but I'd like to upgrade to something less powerconsuming.
