Problem with the Hori Fighting Commander PC Engine Pad

Post by EmperorIng »

I was wondering if anyone ever had this trouble with the Hori Fighting Commander PC for the PC Engine:
Spoiler

I am using this on a PCE Duo-R. The buttons and d-pad works fine, as does the turbo switches for rapid-fire. However, when I try to set the controller to one of the two 6B configurations, the game freaks out. The game activates the turbo switch on EVERY button, and moving a character sometimes doesn't work as it seems as if every input for the d-pad is being pressed rapidly.

You might notice in my picture above the broken turbo switch for button IV. I've secured it in place, so I don't think that should affect the configuration of 3 button or 6 button mode.

Does anyone have one of these pads and can offer advice? I would really appreciate it!

You sure the game supports 6 buttons? Try Street Fighter II.

Do HuCard games/etc simply bug out when they have a 6-button pad in? I had kind of hoped to use this primarily as a replacement for a Avenue 3 pad. I tried this with Forgotten Worlds and got similar (bad) results with either setting on the padd switch.

Not sure how PC Engine controllers work. But the machine was designed for only two buttons, so I think six button mode is prolly something that was hacked together after the fact and games not made to support it may very well bug out. Same goes for forgotten worlds, as that is a three button game, and its implementation of three button support might not be compatible with the six button mode.

In any regard, try an actual six button game with the controller, then you'll know whether it is bad or not.

It's normal for games to freak out in 6 button mode. The game has to support it

Try Street Fighter 2'. The Avenue pad 3 simply maps Select or Start to button III. So that will work fine with any game.

Yep, you have to switch it into "2B" mode if the game doesn't support more than two buttons.

Ah, that sucks; I bought it to be a better Avenue 3, and it can't even match that role.
