Hi Guys,
As i am specialized in collecting Shmups and side scrolling brawlers/beatemups, i still have a lot of games i have to collect.
Anyway i am wondering if it makes sense to get a xbox with coinops for those too expensive or just not attainable.
I know there have been a lot of discussions about this on many forums.
So pls let me say beforehand, that i do not want this to be a generel discussion about "the feeling of owning a pcb is the real thing" or legal topics etc.
I want to keep it completeley technical.
so, we are in 2016 now. an Xboc with coinops 8. How will those emulations actually run against original pcbs?
Given: same setup, both hooked up to a Analogue CRT TV or arcade monitor via RGB, no LCD
what i read often is that there are problems still with sound and tearing. is that actually still the case.
Especially with rare pcbs, cave stuff, say pcbs like fixeight, Truxton 2 , Vimana, GA Death Adder, Punisher, Cadillacs and dinosaurs etc. How does the top set up xbox emulation compare to the responding pcbs.
i am a perfectionist at this, so i want to know if in 2016 it is safe to say that the emulation of scrolling games is at least 99,999% perfect. or are we still stuck here with off sounds and tearing?
Cheers,
Robert

I haven't personally ran an emulator on an Xbox, but its video output is less than perfect for the most discerning of users.
Microsoft left out standard 240p support.

If you are an perfectionist you want to go with a PC and GroovyMame, using Crt_Emudrivers and a compatible graphic card to connect it to an CRT monitor.
In Xbox you only have 480i, or 480p/720p and fake scanlines, it's a pain in the ass to have pixel perfect and you will have screen tearing in some games.

Forget the xbox and look into crt emudriver and groovymame. To me it's identical to the pcb for the games that are properly emulated in mame.

Still some games feel different than mame, like SFIII 3rd Strike which somehow is smoother while on real hardware with no explanation.

The explanation is simple. The emulated version runs too fast.CaptainCommando wrote:Still some games feel different than mame, like SFIII 3rd Strike which somehow is smoother while on real hardware with no explanation.

Thanks for specifying, I don't run mame and I don't have personal experince with emulation. There was a forum discussion somewhere comparing all SFIII 3rd S versions and nothing was the same as the real CPS3 hardwareLEGENOARYNINLIA wrote:The explanation is simple.
