Sony PVM/BVM resources website

Post by h1ghju1ce »

I had a quick look around and couldnt find one, but I was thinking we could do with a wiki type thing to be able to look up
data about the Sony (maybe even JVC as well) pro monitors
and where we had them, user/service manuals links (probably MEGA or Sendfile)

being able to lookup inputs, vertical line count, resolution/sync support, accessory board numbers, release year
firmware versions I think would save alot of questions that keep cropping up

I have a selection of manuals and brochures that I've accumulated over the past 2 years, that could be a place to start
but I have no idea where/how to host such a thing

JunkerHQ maybe?

Actually I just found a basic start of one someone did: http://sonypvm.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_monitors

I started that Wikia last year with the intent of trying to get enough of a base to convince other people to contribute, but like so many other PVM resource sites, I sort of petered out and didn't finish it. I've still got extra stuff (in terms of manuals and service manuals) that I didn't get around to posting, and there's some stuff there that doesn't really make sense. The "max resolution" and "480p support" things in the sidebar, for example: they don't really make sense, since the answer is the same for every PVM but the L5: 480i and no.

That said, if people want to help finish it, I'd be quite happy.

Jvc lists almost every product theyve made in the last 25 years on their website. they have lots of product and info for it..

They have one of the most helpful websites i know of, besides Sears, who also lists all the products theyve made.

The CRTGaming reddit has some good info.

That Reddit page looks pretty much what I had in mind!

GusPaz - Do you know which page came 1st?
I wonder if your page contains any info that might be missing from the reddit page?

I dont think there is any value to be added by creating a 3rd version of the wiki, unless it was to perhaps create one large spec sheet compare table
like wikipedia has for GPUs for instance:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_A ... .29_Series

I think that would make it clearer for people new to the scene, what versions are worth going for, and what they might be worth etc

Shame that reddit page didnt appear in any of my searches, which seems a shame

I became and editor for the Reddit wiki and updated/added a load of content

so it now has more service manuals, information on control units, accessories, and expansion cards and monitor FW

I plan to add pocket spec guides and brochures for additional info

The non Sony sections could do with padding out a bit more, but that will take more research to get there :-)
