Discharging s Sony PVM 20L2

Post by Trevor spencer »

Hi

I've recently discharged a monitor in a Sega Aero which was quite straight forward but now I also have a 20l2 which I would like to clean up, is it a similar process ? Do they have a metal frame I can ground out on ? Can't find much info via Google

Cheers

Yes they have a metal frame. It should also be noted that MOST PVM's automatically discharge the CRT for you when you power them completely off. It is safe to still do a discharge in case that is not working though. Even the 1987 PVM-1271Q I had would auto discharge the tube when I turned it off. It sure as hell makes calibrating them a lot faster.

The following models I have owned in the past that I noticed had an auto discharge were PVM-1271Q, PVM-1354Q, PVM-1954Q, PVM-1943MD, PVM-20M2U, PVM-20M4U, PVM-14M2U, PVM-14M4U, PVM-14L2, PVM-20L2, PVM-14L5, PVM-20L5, BVM-20F1U, BVM-14F5U, BVM-14E5U, BVM 20G1U, and the BVM-D20F1U. I have had more models than this but I can't recall actually servicing them so I am not sure (or don't recall) if they in fact had it.

Nice , Thanks I was thinking it would probably auto discharge but ill still try and discharge it myself just in case. Btw those little black plastic clips on the back of the case do you just lever them off with a screwdriver?

Thanks

No, you just have to remove all the screws in the back and the whole metal shell and plastic backing slide off.
