I knew Taito was going to be releasing Darius titles via PS4 arcade archives eventually but I never imagined it would be this one. Number one favorite STG finally got an arcade perfect home release, and it includes both Vanilla and the current Japanese arcade standard Extra version. I know Extra isn't played so much in the west, but now is the perfect chance to get into it. For those who don't know it's a bug fix with some fine tuning that ups difficulty in some areas while fixing cheap bullshit like the impossible with the laser Glutton fight.
I've already done a couple clears and it looks like a perfect port to me. Even has save states for those among us that like to practice efficiently.
Looks like PS4 might become the ultimate Darius machine if these releases keep up. Maybe we might even finally get the elusive Gaiden Extra...
I'd say it's very likely. Most of the arcade archives end up on the international PSN stores after a little while: Gradius, Salamander, Gradius II, etc. are all up on the US PSN now. But it's really easy to make a JPN account if you want to play it right now.
Got around to picking this up. You can't use autofire in the online ranking mode? Lord, my fingers

Not that I've been able to find. I assume it'd be right on the title screen if it was there, like Gradius was.

How does one accomplish that, may I ask? And then, can I fund the account with a US credit card?

I hope it's possible to remove those fake mirror-overlap vertical lines between monitors.
Yes, it's an option; the default is seamless like MAME, but you can configure the alignment and color balance of all three monitors independently if you want (as well as some preset "imperfect" configurations to simulate real cabinets). It's sort of hilarious how much detail they put into it.
I can attest to the fact that it's extremely easy to buy games from the JP PSN store; I went from complete square one to playing JP games on my main US account in probably 10 minutes.

If you only ever fill up your wallet balance with digital points cards (from Play-Asia or wherever) rather than adding a Japanese credit card, I literally don't think that address is ever actually used for anything.

Probably gonna end up registering for Garegga.
I've done it for years with no issues.
The only time you need a real address is when (like mentioned above) you are using an actual credit card because they need to verify who you are/billing address. If you use pre-pain PSN yen cards, they bypass that step. All they see is "prepaid" and that the funds are already there so there's no need for an address check. I think I've had my Japanese account since 2008 and I've never had any problems, likewise for about a dozen buddies of mine.
Does anyone know where the option to enable autofire is in the Darius Extra version in this package? Word of warning to anyone thinking of buying the JPN releases of the Arcade Archives games, but there are tonnes of options screens, and they're ALL in Japanese. Does anyone know if the Asian versions are in English?
Doesn't help much as the rate sucks. It's always puzzled me that Darius gets a free pass even though it features a lot 9f faults that have seen many Euroshmups torn to pieces.
R1 isn't autofire, it's shot+missile. This is a complete waste of money if there's no autofire option, pretty annoying. It's in the Gradius II package so why not here?
There's an autofire option (don't have access to the game at the moment to tell you exactly where), but you can't use it in the network ranking mode, as I mentioned higher up in the thread.
You can, of course, just use external autofire anyway if your stick supports it, so I don't really know why they bothered to disallow it.

I use the google translate app on my phone and just point the camera at the screen. It's pretty ghetto but gives you a good enough idea of what each setting does.
Thanks for the info, but it won't run on my ancient Android phone. Any chance someone could do the honours for me? I'm dying to play the game but it's unplayable on a pad without autofire.
if you have any of the uk arcade archives shooter releases you can sometimes use the menus from those to work out where a specific option may be..still a pain in the bum tho

I don't have Darius Extra but I have the Original Darius Arcade Archives and here's what's on my menu. I'm not sure if that is autofire on or increase the firerate but it's worth a try.

same game so that is what bcass is looking for..darius extra is just a different mode included in the package
Thanks DoomsDave, it's the same on this package too, just set it and tested and it works.
I hadn't realised this package had been released previously. What format was it on?
If anyone has time to do full translations of all the options that would be great, although not as urgent as discovering what the autofire was! Some of it is fairly obvious, such as the screen resizing and positioning, but other parts less so.
