Does anyone know what the vertical scan frequency is for this monitor please? Is it likely to be 50Hz or 100Hz ?
I've looked in the manual but not found anything, but I'm no monitor expert so maybe I'm reading something wrong. I certainly can't find anyone related to the vertical scan frequency.
Thanks

Re: Sony PVM-14M4E - Vertical Scan Frequency query
The first Google link for this monitor is sales literature, but it does take a bit of knowledge to understand what this means:
PAL, NTSC, SECAM, NTSC 4.43
This means that it accepts all those signal standards, and therefore also scans out at the rates those support. 60Hz and 50Hz signals are supported. Professional users didn't want 100Hz so it's not included.
The set also has RGB + external sync inputs so you can hook up RGBs signals at 50 or 60hz as well.

Re: Sony PVM-14M4E - Vertical Scan Frequency query
Thanks very much, so it will definitely out output at 50 or 60 Hz?
The reason I ask is because I use this monitor exclusively when repairing arcade boards - one of the many board types that I repair is Operation Wolf. I've hooked up a lightgun to it but shots won't register on either board even though the board's circuitry appears to be responding as it should.
I know that one of the boards has a problem with shots registering but not sure about the other one - somebody suggested that it may be a problem with the vertical scan frequency in the Sony. However, if it's outputting at 50 or 60 Hz then it should be fine. I'm sure than the lightgun is okay so I either have a problem with both game boardsets (certainly possible) and/or my monitor isn't lightgun compatible.

Re: Sony PVM-14M4E - Vertical Scan Frequency query
The support is technically going to be for 15KHz, with the actual visible framerate being closer to 59.94Hz. However arcade games typically don't run at this exact timing, but are close. PVMs handle some of these rates well, and others not to much. It depends on the PVM.
Thinking again about the problem, I wonder if it's not actually due to the small size of the tube. It is high enough resolution that scanlines should all be distinct, but perhaps the lightgun optics are designed to focus on physically larger scanlines. I'm just guessing, but if you have access to a real arcade monitor or a larger PVM you might be able to sort this out.

Thanks, nice idea about the monitor size, that hadn't occurred to me. Sadly I don't have a CRT (of any type) larger than 14" as my large CRT TV was disposed of years ago.
Progress eh? Who needs it?
