Composite to RGB?

Post by Chris230291 »

Hi. Does anyone know if there are any simple circuits/devices that can convert a composite signal to an RGB signal? I have found small inexpensive boards that will convert RGB to composite, but not the other way around. I realize that quality wont change, it would just make my setup cleaner and simpler.

Thanks,
Chris

But quality will change: unless the conversion device has a comb filter that is as good quality as your monitor or television, the quality when using an composite-to-RGB adapter will be worse.

Thanks for the reply.
Really? I didn't know that.
If these devices exist and are cheap enough I'm still willing to give one a go. It would mean loosing a lot of extra bits and hassle with my setup. I'm also willing to look at any DIY schematics and build my own.

The devices exist, but I've no idea what the quality will be like, or how much lag they might add.

Here is such a device:

You see that's too expensive. This is for my NES. For the price that converter costs I may as well just go for the RGB mod, but I cant really justify the cost considering it's by far my least used system.

Extron made a composite decoder. The CD 400. Works well, and I have a friend is trying to get rid of one for pretty cheap. You can also find them on eBay.

Looks like the Extron can hit as low as $20ish on eBay.
