Why is it so damn hard to do local score tables anymore!?

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

So I got 1942: Joint Strike in Capcom's 8 game Digital Collection for the Xbox 360 from a pawnshop today.

Am I to understand they've created a shmup with no score saving? WHAT THE HELL.
The whole reason I got the damn thing was so I could play the game without shelling out for an Xbox Live account.
It doesn't even give me my final score after dying, just shoots me back to the ugly ass title screen.
Hell, I'd even be willing to pencil my scores down like it was 1980, this is crazy.

I recall other online games being the same way.
How hard is it to sort and store a few hundred /bytes/ of score data in memory!?
Impossible locally apparently.

This sucks man, totally ruins the game if it doesn't even let me write down my score manually.
What am I supposed to do, work with a spotter that sits next to me taking pictures? :x
You expect me to record every damn play so I can look at the footage and get my final score Capcom!?

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Speaking as a guy who's developed some shmups, I can tell you with certitude that having absolutely no local score tracking whatsoever is indicative of a company that actively hates its players.

Leaderboards aren't something you need Xbox Live Gold for. They should work if you made a Silver account.

Not that that's not still BS.

Yeah, it just sucks that essentially you must pay for a score table monthly.
I don't plan on ever purchasing an Xbox live account because I don't want another monthly fee. :?

I'm out of work right now so I'm trying to save on money expenditures. :)
Sony was a bit better because they didn't charge for memberships initially.

No, that's just it, you don't. "Silver" Xbox Live accounts are completely free, and they let you use online leaderboards. The main thing you get from a Gold (paid) account is online multiplayer.
