Walmart selling arcade cabs?

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

So it looks like Wal*Mart is stocking some bizarre arcade cab.
Do those joystick and buttons look legit? They seem...undersized.

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Yeah, I've seen those in the wild before. Namco still makes new muticade machines.

That particular model has existed for a few years now.

I actually played it for the first time at Hershey park just a week ago.

It's shit.

The emulation is choppy, there's very noticeable input lag, and the joystick is locked to 4 way movement, despite the fact there are several games that require 8 way movement like Dragon Spirit, Rolling Thunder, Bosconian, etc.

Also LCD monitor, and the horizontal games are letterboxed.

Sounds like a checklist of what not to do.
Probably designed by people who have foggy memories or have never played arcade games.

ugh. Especially disappointing since Namco used to put out some awesome classic revival machines. Too bad the ones with the updated versions of Galaga, Xevious, Mappy, New Rally-X, Pac-Man, and Dig Dug are so uncommon. I was lucky enough to play the one with Pac-Man, Dig Dug, and New Rally-X.

Jesus Christ, how do you get it that badly wrong? Is there no quality control department there? The LCD monitor and such I can understand, but limiting the controls despite them being necessary for included games is unforgivable.

Played a similar multi-cab in a shitty seafront pub earlier in the year, having been so disappointed not to find any actual video games in the arcades.

£1 for the least responsive game of Space Invaders I've ever had. Fire button didn't even work when I tried to play 1942 but they gave me my quid back at least. Shitty bat-top stick and square light up buttons (like you'd get for start buttons occasionally but never fire), should've walked away there and then.

How can you fuck up ancient easily emulated games and slap on shitty controls too?
