Sony BVM-20M4E Help / Setup

Post by ravi_s »

Hi Guys,

I recently purchase two of these monitors off fleebay ( 1 backup) to use in my main arcade cabinet instead of my existing B&O MX6000 TV.

I got both of the monitor working via BNC to Scart adaptor from Retro Gaming Cables.

Both monitors have been tested on my Groovymame setup, Snes, Megadrive and SuperGun - PCB / Neo Geo Rig..

The picture appears to be razor sharp and colours are seem to nice and bright.. now the issue.. the image appears too
pixelated??? More noticeable on some of the lower resolution games such as Street smart, killer instinct, double dragon on mame.

Are there some setting I can tweak ... to alter the sharpness I assume this would fix my pixelated image issue? I know the aperture control on the front does not work on any RGB connections.. There is a focus pot inside the monitor - do I need to slightly turn this to soften the picture??

I know its not Groovy mame issue as I never had this issues with the B&O TV, Snes / Megadrive consoles appear have the same problem.

Please look at some the screenshot below, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hmm some of those photos do look somewhat strange for an 800TVL monitor. My BVM-20G1E (also 800TVL) does not look anything like that. That, to me, looks like what I'd expect to see on a 500TVL (or lower) screen.

an 800TVL screen should look like this:

For comparison, heres my 500TVL PVM:
