Best RGB mod for a PC Engine DUO-R
I just bought a pc engine duo-r and it works great via composite but I want to mod it for RGB. I have modded other consoles before but I have read there are a multitude of of different ways and amps you can build for the Duo-R. I am also using a turbo everdrive which I've read can draw too much power when combined with certain mods. What is the definitive RGB mod for the Duo-R? I am going to be playing it mostly on a XRGB mini if that matters.
Any help is appreciated.

Details for the current de facto RGB mod for consoles containing the NEC Hu6260 can be found here.

I've installed a couple of these now, but personally, I don't believe it's the optimal choice for his console (cost wise at the very least!). Tim makes a wonderful product, but I think it's an overkill for the DUO-R; the audio amp, for instance, is not required. If I were to install in a PCEngine or TG16 .. I would only use the AV-Driver.RGB32E wrote:Details for the current de facto RGB mod for consoles containing the NEC Hu6260 can be found here.
But for Duo, Duo-R and Duo-RX I suggest using one of the kits found in the buy/sell forum here. The kit comes with 8 pin DIN, SCART cable and the amp. The amp was recently updated (based on Tim's advise) to measure 75 ohm output impedance even though 100 ohm resistors are used on the output pins.
I also strongly suggest doing the jailbar fix on the Duo-R as documented on Tim's web site.

Thanks for the replies
So will any rgb mod work with the turbo everdrive? is it just region mods that draw too much power?
It doesn't seem like this is available anymore.RGB32E wrote:Details for the current de facto RGB mod for consoles containing the NEC Hu6260 can be found here.
I already have the cables and stuff like that I probably just need to buy/make an amp. If there's a tutorial out there could you link me? I'm supposing the website you mention is thi one? http://etim.net.au/ I can't find anything about a pc engine amp or a jailbar fix on it.leonk wrote:But for Duo, Duo-R and Duo-RX I suggest using one of the kits found in the buy/sell forum here. Contact the seller. He will sell RGB amp only.
I only have a Turbo Everdrive. I've installed both RGB amps in many difference NEC consoles, and never noticed a power issue.

Thanks, might try that. Is there anything to stop me wiring the din out jack identically to the megadrive 1 so my cords can do double duty?

That would be harder than just using a different cable. You would have to find a Sega style 8 pin din jack and then hack up the output port on the duo to match the pins. Genesis is only mono audio too out of the din jack.Bondy wrote:Thanks, might try that. Strongly suggest you don't mix cables. The Sega Genesis Model 1 SCART cable (the GOOD cable) has caps, resistors, and even a sync booster (to remove jailbars). All this will interfere with both RGB amps talked about here - they have the components on the amps! The correct SCART cable for the NEC consoles here have no components.Bondy wrote:Thanks, might try that. I think last time I sent just an amp to Australia it was just an extra $1 for shipping (so 21 USD total). Send me a pm if you are interested in one.Bondy wrote:Point taken. I live in Australia mickcris, how much would it be for postage?

Is the proper way to do this to connect a 300 ohm resistor in parallel to ground after the 100 ohm ones? Thanks in advance.leonk wrote:The amp was recently updated (based on Tim's advise) to measure 75 ohm output impedance even though 100 ohm resistors are used on the output pins.

91 and 470 unless you want to use 4 resistors then 86 and 586lordcoxis wrote:Is the proper way to do this to connect a 300 ohm resistor in parallel to ground after the 100 ohm ones? Re: Best RGB mod for a PC Engine DUO-R
Something I've wondered, has anyone attempted placing a 1.1k/4.7k voltage divider for PCE level correction before the THS7314 instead of modifying the termination stage after it?
I normally would assume someone tried it and it caused some kind of problem, but I've never actually seen any posts about it yet so it's worth asking.
