Tracking down a SLG HD

Post by gavme »

Does anybody know how I might be able to track down an SLG HD or know anyone that might be selling one?

Alternatively, does anybody know of another scanline generator that has component in and component out that would do the same job?

Thanks in advance.

Oh, well. In that case your best bet is to post a wanted add in the Trading Station. Or alternatively, get a component to VGA transcoder and a regular SLG.

please! If you try to transcode a scanlined image to component you can run into a lot of trouble - internally (as you know, beharius) and externally, so I wouldn't recommend it.

The only really good (and clean) solution right now is to use a OSSC along with a cheap HDMI to component converter.

Missed that the output had to be component too. Reading is fundamental.

There was this posting from before Christmas:

Unclear if it's still available.

I've managed to get hold of an SLG HD now.

Now the weird thing is when feed it a 480p signal it seems to put a very fine checkered overlay on the image rather than nice clean horizontal scanlines.

Even stranger is when I feed it a 480i signal (which it is not supposed to support) and it kicks out lovely clean scanlines.

Has anyone ever come across this sort of behaviour with any device? Do you think my SLG HD is faulty?

Well, it seems like with 480i you'd be drawing lines over each half-frame of the 480i image (before weaving them together). Are you sure scan lines aren't so clean and crisp because they're actually drawing over the picture?

Doesn't mean it's wrong, I kind of like the look sometimes, but it's not really "between" the lines so much as cutting out every other line of the picture.

480i (straight lines)

What is going on here?

this is most likely your TV's "fault". TVs can (and will) equalize an incoming signal. The added scanlines can look like an unstable signal to the TV's processing engine. Same thing will happen if you feed a scanlined VGA image into a transcoder. Some of them will completely annihilate all scanlines.
