Ruiner (PC, 2016) - Slick Cyberpunk Violence

15 Minutes of Uninterrupted Footage from IGN

So, Ruiner. It's overhead, there's guns, melee weapons, it's fast, and it's quite violent. Oh, and death can be easy, but restarting is even easier since it's only a keypress of R away. There's a bit of Hotline Miami in this, but it looks like the similarities end there. Seems like there's a handful of cues from other games in this. You can Dash multiple times (and queue them up like Transistor), you get a Shield, and both of these can be used offensively as well as defensively. The site says that these two abilities fall under Gadgets, and hints towards at least one more.

If anything, the Cyberpunk setting looks and sounds great. There's just the right amount of grime in the environments to suit this sort of game. The music is certainly lending well to the dirty setting and brutal gameplay. The sound is just as violent as the action. When you hit a Creep with a Metal Pipe, it sounds like they're getting smacked really hard with a Metal Pipe. I think that sort of audio feedback is important. And I like how the Gift drones sent by Her float in with their own little music like they're UFOs from Space Invaders. It's clear there's actual effort being put into the style and personality of Ruiner and I always like seeing that from any game now.

Also, check out that helmet.

Oh man, this looks fucking sick.
It's kind of similar to what I had in mind for my dream cyberpunk game, too. Love how each gift plays Unreal Superhero.
Dunno what's up with the massive HP bloat on the boss, like fighting a boss in Ys while underleveled, but we haven't seen the whole fight either.
Will definitely be checking this out.

Liar. I've known you only from latexmachomen.com and pantysniffers.org forums.
