Im thinking of buying this game. does anyone know how to tell from the packaging the second version that doesnt have graphics glitches?
the original release had a few minor glitches in it that were later fixed.

Re: soukyugurentai saturn glitches
You can't miss the second release - it's got a distinctly different white-bordered cover, and was retitled "Soukyugurentai Otokuyo:"

I'm still waiting on a nice copy of bugfixed OutRun, which AFAIK has only a different serial number on the disc's inner ring. The initial run doesn't work on certain Saturn revisions, apparently.

i thought the glitches only happened when you played the game in a US Saturn with a action replay, no?

With a switch, you won't have glitches. It's only an effect of using carts to play imports.

Re: soukyugurentai saturn glitches
Apparently it can depend on the mod.
The glitch of the original is triggered by the language/region reported by the console's motherboard - this apparently is independent of the region lock. The glitched "English" version is started when a non-Japanese language/region is encountered. "Soukyugurentai Otokuyo" had the "english version" removed (and the Battle Garrega Demo added).
Edit: It is not uncommon for "Soukyugurentai Otokuyo" to be about twice as expensive as the original release.

Re: soukyugurentai saturn glitches
Well, I have two systems, with a common region switch, and they work fine.
The reason I originally had my system modded, back in the last 90s, was because of the glitch, with this game. I don't think the other version had come out yet.

Re: soukyugurentai saturn glitches
It all comes about because it tries to play it in English but the implementation was incomplete. It's not just US, it happens on UK (and probably other English speaking regions, maybe European regions too?) as well. The unplayable glitches only happen in the individual stage score attacks and, for the main game, if you skip the (very short) launch cutscene.
Avoiding the gamebreaker, you also get glitched text before bosses but English story text so it's not all bad.
Basically even in the original pressing the game is completely fine as long as you don't skip that launch sequence. You can't really play the stage score attacks at all though.
