N64 RGB AMP issue

Post by AndehX »

quickly need some advice here. I installed the RGB amp on my Japanese N64, and I ended up with an yellow tint on my screen. My initial reaction was that blue was shorted to something since I couldn't see any blue in the picture.

Tested continuity between red green and blue and they all seemed to be connected somehow. So I removed the RGB amp and now I have no continuity between red green and blue at the multiout, but I do have continuity between all the pins on the video chip. Is that normal? Should there be continuity between the pins on the chip?

I ruined the vias on the RGB amp when I removed it from the N64, but I can patch that up with some wire. I just need to know whats going on.

Need advice here guys.

I went ahead and desoldered the R G B pins on the VDC-NUS chip, then soldered the wires to these lifted pins. This eliminated the short to ground I was getting.

Now I have another issue.
Im getting no continuity between the input and output pins on the THS7314 chip. Ground seems fine, but theres nothing from the R G B pins.

This is the result:

That is supposed to be the Resident Evil 2 title screen.

Does this mean the THS7314 chip is dead?

Problem solved.

I resoldered the R G B pins back down on the VDC-NUS, and then just soldered the 3 wires to the pins, and it seems to work fine now. Man, soldering to the vias on the bottom of the board is an absolute nightmare. If I ever do this mod again, i'll just solder directly to the pins.
