PSP-3001 ac adapter

Post by mikehaggar »

Ok, so I own a PSP-3001.

I wanted to play it recently but the battery is dead and I've lost the AC adapter. So I bought one online...received an official PSP-100 ac adapter. However, when I try to plug it into my console to charge it, nothing happens. I notice that the plug doesn't go in all the way...is this supposed to happen?

Also, how is this possible? As far as all the info I can find online says, the PSP-100 is an ac adapter that fits all models of the PSP. Is this not true?

Frustrating!

I think some models had different voltage so just because it fits it doesn't mean it will charge. On my PSP slim the plug doesn't go all the way in too.
Have you tried a different battery in case that's dead ?

It should work fine. If your battery is dead enough it can take up to an hour for it to actually charge up enough to do anything. Keep it plugged in for an afternoon and see what happens. If it doesn't, check both the PSP and the charger to see if anything is stuck (dirt/crumbs) in the hole that might be blocking it from connecting.

It should work without issue.

It might be possible the actual AC Socket/connector might have gone bad.

Because even if the battery was dead. You can play with it plugged into the wall without a Battery at all. (Try that)

but can somebody with a psp-3001 confirm that the psp-100 ac adaptor doesn't plug in all the way? The plug goes in halfway....so I'm not sure if this is the problem, or if maybe my battery is just dead and won't charge anymore...it's either the wrong plug or the psp and I'd like to figure out which!

I can't shake the feeling that this is the wrong ac adaptor...why would it be designed that it doesn't fit all the way?

The good thing is the adapters are only a couple bucks online. If the connector fits, chances are your battery is dead as different revisions of other handhelds have changed the connector for different models.

Try leaving it plugged in all night and if not, the batteries are cheap and user interchangeable.

Why don't you try what the guy above said?
Take the battery out and try to power it on with just the ac adaptor. If it turns on, then you're fine. If it doesn't, then you know there's something up with the adaptor.

Hmm. Going back and testing both my 3000 and 2000, with a 100 AC adaptor (Marked PSP-100) both go in all the way.

Also, neither system will boot without a battery being charged even with the cable in. Which is odd. I very vividly remember being able to play without a battery. Maybe that was the 1000 itself? I had 2 or 3 of those. Maybe they changed that with the revisions..

Ok, I'm officially stumped. I have an official psp-3001 as well as an official psp-100, and it doesn't fit all the way. Not sure how this is possible...maybe this is a bootleg power supply?? (seems super unlikely!)

I just bought a cheapo psp offbrand power supply via walmart.com that claims it fits the 3000, let's see how this goes...

My PSP slim (PSP-2001 i think?) can't boot without the battery charged at least a bit too.

I actually bought a psp300x just recently, and I've noticed i'm having a bit trouble to get it to charge. I need to have it at like a perfect angle for it to actually charge. but I'm pretty sure the charger he sent me is an unofficial one.
