News - Final Fantasy V and VI coming to the GBA

Just yesterday, Square Enix President Yoichi Wada made a rather big announcement at Nintendo's DS Conference in Japan: Final Fantasy IV isn't the only game in the series that will see an updated re-release on the Game Boy Advance. Now it is known that Final Fantasy V and fan-favorite Final Fantasy VI are also in the works for Nintendo's chameleon handheld... but wait, there's more: like FF IV Advance, FF V and VI will come with content not found in either the original Super NES or "updated" PS1 ports of the games. Both games are slated for release next year, following the holiday release of FF IV Advance.
This news, of course, isn't a complete surprise: there has been speculation that Square Enix was up to more than just a portable remake of FF IV after last week's issue of Shonen Jump! in Japan called FF IV Advance the first entry in the "Final Fantasy Series Port Project."
Wada also divulged some new information regarding the cloudy status of the long-awaited DS version of Final Fantasy III. According to Wada, the game is definitely in development, but is undergoing some major cosmetic changes: polygons are now being used for both the characters and the fields, which would most likely account for the long development time.
Final Fantasy IV Advance is scheduled for release in North America on December 12, just in time for the holidays. GAF will being you any more news on FF V and VI for the GBA as it develops.
6 is my personal favorite out of all the ones I've played (4-9) in the FF series...hopefully they won't mess anything up too much in this port. Heck, the load times in the PS1 version slowed it down quite a bit...
I'd rather not get those "extras", though. I wonder how they'll decide to ruin it... Another of Shadow's dreams? Sigfried a playing character? You can save Leo from his fate?

If it's anything like Dawn of Souls, the extras will be tacked on somewhere else and should be completely avoidable if you don't care about them.

I hope so. I'm worried however about the GBA sound capabilities. Will it be able to replicate Uematsu's score in all its greatness?
I liked the inclusion of the extra stuff that Square-Enix included in the Dawn of Souls, mainly because I was always bored at work and the extra stuff kept me busy after I was done with the main quest storyline.
So here's to hoping that they'll add some neat extra stuff in this upcoming GBA release. I just pray that it isn't mind-numbingly retarded.
Good. Now I can retire FF Anthology and FF Chronicles to collector's item status and stop playing games with inexplicable loading and slowdown and poorly emulated sound and music.
