I was able to play this through Wine in Linux so that is a plus.

I really liked the spritework nice design.

I think you could make it a bit faster paced though. It would be best if you upped the shot speed to something like 8 pixels per frame I think. You may or may not need to lower the damage the shot does. I just think the shot felt a bit more like a torpedo than the traditional fast laser of a shmup.

It would also be a good idea to add some kind of hitbox indicator on the player ship since it is a rather large sprite.
It might also be good to make the enemy shots a bit less fuzzy so they have a harder edge against the background.

Overall I would encourage you to keep going.
Just need to polish it a bit so it feels less sluggish. 8)
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
