Dualshock 2 Repair Help

I was raging and threw my graphing calculator towards the floor, which ended up hitting my PS2 controller just a little left of dead center. The controller absorbed the blow which ended up saving the >$100 calculator, but damaged the controller. It caused a mark on the left analog stick and that part of the controller, popped off the L1 button, and cracked the back half of the shell at the bottom of the left handle. The analog light also went off even though a PS2 game was running and the controller wouldn't respond even though I disconnected and reconnected it. I opened it up and found that both circuit boards (normal and flex) were fine, as well as everything else except for the motors (used for vibration), whose connections got severed right at the part it got soldered on the circuit board.

I could order a broken (first-party, of course) PS2 controller off eBay with the shell intact and at least 1 undamaged analog stick to replace the externals, and my dad's an electrical engineer so he could help me solder the motors back on, but I'm wondering if that's what's causing it to not work. Did the circuit break (as in, the loop being incomplete) when the motors got disconnected? Should I take pics? Thanks.

Is yours the version where the flexboard is only in contact with the rigid circuit board from pressure from the back housing? If it is, the housing being cracked would most likely break that set of electrical connections.

I don't know. What would that look like? It says "H" on the back, while the controller I'm using now has an "A" there.

The controller I broke was one I got with my PS2 which was a silver slim (SCPH-79001 NTSC) refurbished from GameStop in 2009 (it was also silver, if that makes a difference). I got the controller (also 1st party) I'm currently using brand new a few days after getting the console (and it's clear blue). I looked at the inside and the clear blue one has its central chip tilted at a 45 degree angle while the silver one has its chip titled at a 0 degree angle. There also seems to be more pins connecting the analog sensors in the clear blue one.
