Rotatable Monitor for Consoles?
Hi Guys,
Having read the other posts around Tate mode for PC based hardware and graphics cards, I'm yet to spot any information on rotatable monitors for consoles.
Does anyone know of a rotatable monitor with RGB SCART, AV and S-Video input?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Now now, make no hasty judgements. I have a Philips CM8533 as a dedicated TATE monitor and I know few other of our european members have 1084's doing the same thing.mannerbot wrote:For RGB goodness, I think the majority of people here (excluding those in Europe of course) use Commodore 1084s's or 1080's.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I made a little site to host the pics.
You can find them here :

I took the ingame pictures while the game was in motion so it looks a little bit washy but it should give you an idea of how it looks.
I'm completely happy with it.
Actually this is also my first time having a display I can use to play vertical shmups. In the past I only played yoko style so only that fact is for me a big plus even if the image quality isn't as perfect as can be.

Yes, they are fairly common.
The Blast City monitor. 29" CRT 15kHz (RGB) to 31kHz (VGA) (auto switch), 110V power, fully rotatable. Too bad they only accept RGB and VGA.
It should suit all your gamming needs, you can connect your MegaDrive, PC-Engine, Saturn, DreamCast, PS1, PS2, GameCube, X-Box, JAMMA boards and Personal Computer to it.

So you don't notice that the games are slightly squished because of the widescreen format? When rotated your monitor is now 9:16 aspect ratio, and these games were developed for 3:4 aspect ratio.Michaelm wrote:I'm using a Dell 2405FPW 24" widescreen TFT monitor with a resolution of 1920x1200 and component, composite, vga, dvi-d and s-vhs input for my vertical shmupping. Had to buy an extra wallmount to get it to rotate the right way though.
@mannerbot: If you click on the pics you get bigger ones. Then click on them again to make them "unfit" the screen.
@Dave_K.: Well I do notice that it isn't exactly the right resolution but I still think it looks nice enough. Maybe the fact that I have never seen those games for real on a real monitor helps me liking it ?

Finally took my 1702 home.

This is fed in through S-video, although the photo wasn't taken with the TV as the main focus.
Really, Commodore monitors give great picture quality and construction that can't be matched by anything else in the price range (i.e. dirt cheap)
