So it seems like the network adapter built into my laptop is on the fritz, so I need to buy a USB wireless adapter as a replacement.
Thing is I don't know what to look for; I just want something that has at least the same capabilities as the built in one.
Would I go wrong buying a dual band one capable of 300 MBPS if I just want no lag online gaming, HD streaming/broadcasting, fast downloads, etc? Any features in particular I should look for?
Recommendations for a USB wireless adapter?

If it's the built-in adapter dying, why not just replace that adapter itself? I replace mine with something better even before the built-in one dies.
I recommend something like an Intel 7260. Make sure you get one in the proper physical form factor.

The main problem with that approach is that I'm an incompetent boob when it comes to fixing and modifying hardware. In fact I just broke my fightstick again the other day due to my inept attempts to install an actuator.
I'd hate to think what I would end up doing to my computer attempting to replace the adapter given I'm still figuring out how to perform that basic mechanical task.
