Help identifying this symbol on a SCART input

Post by HandOfIke »

Hi,

Can someone tell me what this symbol (circled in red) is above this SCART input? I was hoping it meant that I can input an S-Video (Y/C) signal into the scart port but the manual doesn't really say what it is....

Many thanks

I'm fairly certain that the S stands for S-Video.

Could also have something to do with that Smartlink thing mentioned below, which prolly was a proprietary device to device control communication protocol.

of course it's s-video. Luma goes to pin 20, while chroma goes to pin 15.

But that suggests that every SCART input is wired for that, I know that the cables can be but the set must take an S-Video signal I'm guessing that not every SCART input or TV will take an S-Video input and as the manual says nothing about S-Video and I've never seen this symbol before I wanted to check..

Thanks

On *most* European TV sets Scart 1 was able to accept composite and RGB, while Scart 2 was able to accept composite and s-video.

To accept composite, s-video and RGB on the same socket usually a software menu configuration was neccessary (but I've only rarely seen this on any sets).

Yes it stands for S-Video. My Samsung TV only has one SCART input, which accepts composite and RGB only.

I had a TV by JVC that let me toggle between S-video on and off on all SCART inputs with the remote, and it had that very same logo.
