Recommend a camera
Been wanting to take higher quality pictures and video of my crt monitors in action but the camera on my phone just isnt up to par. Is there anything out there that will do the job? New or old I don't care "well not so old that can't transfer my pictures onto a pc" I just need one user friendly enough for a dumb guy to use. Unless there is something really good like on craigslist that pops up in my area then I most likely wont be looking to make a purchase right away.

Re: Recommend a camera
I want a Sony A6000.
Don't know if thats too costly or overkill for you though

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Re: Recommend a camera
tacoguy64, I was just about to start a thread on this subject
My guess is that it would be a good move to get a camera that can film at 60fps: i read in an article regarding "shooting a crt" that this should eliminate flicker, as well as those dark bars that slowly move across the screen, since it matches the 60hz refresh rate of the display by a 1:1 ratio.
Anyone wanna chime in on this?
EDIT : The Canon S120 is intriguing me : it gets good reviews, shoots 1920 x 1080 @ 60 fps and is in my price range. Wonder if it would make a good camera for this

I heard of that one too. I did read that it was really good but this camera is more for advance users. Noob people like me will most likely not be able to take full advantage of it.neorichieb1971 wrote:I want a Sony A6000.

Haha you want to test out the waters with that cannon camera first? :pFinalBaton wrote:tacoguy64, I was just about to start a thread on this subject![]()

But I also read the reviews and it does have a lot going for it.

Re: Recommend a camera
That won't help you unless you can synchronize the 60Hz of the camera with the 60Hz of the display - there will always be minor discrepancies between the frame rates of the display and camera otherwise, resulting in dark bars or other effects.FinalBaton wrote:My guess is that it would be a good move to get a camera that can film at 60fps: i read in an article regarding "shooting a crt" that this should eliminate flicker, as well as those dark bars that slowly move across the screen, since it matches the 60hz refresh rate of the display by a 1:1 ratio.
For movie scenes with CRTs in them, this was (as far as I know) solved by synchronizing the video signal shown on the CRTs and the shutter of the camera, either by locking the signal going into the CRT to the camera or the camera to the video signal. Still pictures of CRTs are much easier in comparison - if the game is paused you can use a longer exposure time to average out any partial image that has been captured at the beginning or end of the exposure.
