Gamecube games in NTSC-J mode on soft-modded US WII?

Post by vrada501 »

I followed a tutorial on playing burnt backup Gamecube games on a soft modded Wii.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OzhD514p_o

I wanted to play StarFox Adventures with Japanese subtitles and from what I heard, that could only be done on a Japanese Gamecube no matter which version of the game.

With those programs in the tutorial, is there a anyway at all I could set it to NTSC-J mode so that I could do that? I remember the programs and apps involved were cIOSX installer, MIOS Patcher, some wad with Wiigator in the name and the Launcher is called GC Backup Launcher.

Also just wanted to make sure, shouldn't what I mentioned earlier mean that save files aren't picky with the version of the game?

Follow this guide to softmod your Wii and install USB Loader GX. Connect an external HDD or a USB flashdrive to the bottom one of the two USB slots in the back of the Wii. Start your Wii, launch the USB Loader GX channel, insert your GC/Wii disc into the disc slot and an installation prompt should pop up. Do as it says and install the game. Wait until the installation process finishes. Play the game.

USB Loader GX works with Wii and Gamecube games of all regions and supports all video modes.

Really not watching any videos... Since when did 1 page of instructions turn into 10 minute Youtube videos? Have people lost the ability to read?

Anyway, in addition to what Jonathan Ingram wrote (which I really recommend, dealing with discs sucks), you want to install Nintendont for maximum Gamecube compatibility. USB Loader GX will allow you to choose between them. Both it and DIOS MIOS should support region changing, but I doubt anyone has tried your specific use case for that yet.

Is there any list of GameCube games that erase savestates from different region(s)? Apparently GameCube memory cards are region-bound.

That's an advantage of HDD loaders: they can have a separate virtual memory card for every single game.

Wow! Thanks for this guide, I haven't used my system for many months (or over a year?) and last I checked, there was no way to run GameCube games from USB.

Thanks for just adding more value to my system! I just set this up today and it is especially great because my system is a Japanese unit and it was troublesome even to go through GeckOS to boot my US-region discs for F-Zero and others.
