Some of the spots can be a bit problematic (chiefly the one in the final stage where one is coming from the middle and one from the right - even if you take one of them out there's probably not enough time to kill the second one before it starts shooting), but if you play with autofire it should be no problem to fly behind most of them and take them out before they pose much of a threat. When in doubt, bomb. And since the checkpoint recovery is very generous it's not too bad if you die. Just make sure you get a bit further for each death.
The only thing I don't particularly like are those huge planes that act as the final bosses of the game: they have a really dense pattern that seems unavoidable without bombs. I could be wrong, though, I haven't studied them thoroughly.

And I certainly agree - 2-2 in general and its boss in particular are extremely difficult. A Pop'n TwinBee 2-ALL is definitely the hardest clear on the console, rivaling most arcade games with ease.
