Sky Smasher

Post by Blinge »

Alright, let's have a Sky Smasher thread.

I've had a couple more credits since ACSeraph's Death Roulette, I'll be coming back to it later for sure.
See if you can survive the bullshit long enough to beat my score

You know the drill: All settings default.
Autofire is allowed, but let me know if you're an OG who doesn't need use it..

Submission format:

Code: Select all

Name - Score - Stage - Autofire
R=Rank & Name & Score & Stage & Autofire R=01 & Perikles & 1,553,270 & 2-3 & hell yes R=02 & Baron Rojo & 1,385,330 & ?? & N R=03 & Blinge & 485,240 & 3 & Y R=04 & ptoing & 324,560 & 2 & ??

Jeez, bullshit is the right word. Is autofire OK, because my fingers can not do this anymore.

Perikles - 1,280,950 - 2-1 - Autofire Hell Yes

Well, that was fast. At first I didn't realise that I was on the first stage again, but sure enough, those tank formations look familiar. Neat game, kinda like an easygoing (and decidedly more fun!) Daisenpuu without the helper squadrons. Might try to get a bit further into the loop.

Cheers for the scores, guys.

Haha damnit Perikles you're beating me on every tiny scoreboard front. You didn't get stuffed by the planes coming in from behind then?

Dunno if you noticed but I've closed the gap a lot in pop'n'twinbee! 2-2 is insane though. I'm satisfied with that.

Some of the spots can be a bit problematic (chiefly the one in the final stage where one is coming from the middle and one from the right - even if you take one of them out there's probably not enough time to kill the second one before it starts shooting), but if you play with autofire it should be no problem to fly behind most of them and take them out before they pose much of a threat. When in doubt, bomb. And since the checkpoint recovery is very generous it's not too bad if you die. Just make sure you get a bit further for each death. :) The only thing I don't particularly like are those huge planes that act as the final bosses of the game: they have a really dense pattern that seems unavoidable without bombs. I could be wrong, though, I haven't studied them thoroughly.

I warily noticed that, of course - good job! :) And I certainly agree - 2-2 in general and its boss in particular are extremely difficult. A Pop'n TwinBee 2-ALL is definitely the hardest clear on the console, rivaling most arcade games with ease.

Pardon the double post, but I played a few more credits and got a slightly better score:

Perikles - 1,553,270 - 2-3

I'd say this is the fourth stage since there were three large enemies before this point. I found my final resting place at this spot in case you want to denote it differently :) :

Edit: nah, it's stage 3. The battle ship does not have the dramatic boss music.

I think in this game is important whether in scores was used or not autofire.

Why? I'm not too bothered about how good people are at repeatedly pressing a button..

funny how the same people who champion a genre like this as "misunderstood" also completely misunderstand tapping skill

edit: you aren't worth more than bitchy comments and ninja edits

I thought you'd pipe up. Got a problem with me, Despatche?

Where have I ever said that the genre is misunderstood? :?

Edit: I asked why. If someone wants to explain the reason for distinguishing auto-fire use or nay instead of making bitchy comments, I'm all ears.

Hi blingee, first of all thank you for creating this thread.
As to your question of why it is important to me, well because in my opinion this game with autofire becomes easier, one of the biggest challenges in these classic shmups is the resistance, and know what kind of enemies You have to approach and shoot fast, and which is not necessary. lets say you learn to dosing strength, so I think it's important, but I also appreciate the ability to dodge bullets whit autofire.

Pathetic.

No worries Rojo, I've added autofire to the OP out of respect for your hi-score in ww1..
