Best version of Shikigami No Shiro III?

Post by Oniros »

At the moment, I am being offered a $20 copy of Shiki III for the Wii. But also, I am going to Japan later this year and was thinking on grabbing the X360 or PC version. Is there any consensus on which version is best? Also, with Degica and H2 Interactive dumping all shmups from the past 5 years on Steam, color me surprised that this hasn't been brought over yet.

For me, it would come down to "which system do I have an arcade stick for?"...Both are competent ports, really just up to you and your play style preferences.

I picked up a used Wii copy for 9.99 from EB games after making sure that it had a manual as "localized reference" for my used J360 copy (which based on the noise it makes has been through a "disc repair grinder" - but as it installs without problem I ignore it).

FYI, the PC version lacks the "Dramatic Change Mode" exclusive to the console ports. This is the mode where you can pick two characters as a single player and switch between them on the fly during the run.
I think it also lacks the boss rush mode but I am not 100% sure.

The Xbox 360 is the best one, but it was only released in Japan and is Region Locked.

There's one big difference between the two console ports:

On the Wii you *HAVE* to tate to get the game's full resolution, while you can run the game in 720p Yoko on the 360 and still get the full 640x480p window rotated in the middle..... Yoko on the Wii isn't something you want to experience.

Are you sure it's not a case of the game not being adjusted for widescreen? If I remember correctly, it looked better in the 4:3 aspect ratio. I know for sure that VC games aren't adjusted for widescreen (though they are when played on WiiU via Wii VC, oddly enough). At least it's not like Mega Man 9 where it's 480i native and has a poorly adjusted anamorphic widescreen.

It's really not that big a deal. I have no problem single-credit clearing the game or playing for score like that, at least. And that demands being able to clearly discern the character and bullets for 8x grinding.

The other thing about the Wii version is all the dialogue is actually translated and voice acted (competently, too).
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Not speaking from personal experience so this could be incorrect, but I heard the Wii version only outputs in dual-mono, while the 360 is actual stereo. Been a few years now though.

I had it on the Wii, but got it on the 360 later. It's in HD and whatnot.

But as stated above, it is region locked.

I think the PC version supports the highest resolution of the three (but it's not the kind of graphics that would benefit immensely from it).
