San Francisco Rush 2049: DC VGA vs. Xbox VGA

Post by a.c._slatercore »

I picked up the X Box version Of Midway Collection Vol. 3 today. I decided to compare the X Box version of San Francisco Rush 2049 to the Dreamcast version. I have the Dreamcast (Hais) and X Box (X2VGA+) running through a 22" Mitsubishi Diamontron via VGA. I found the X Box version inferior to the DC version. The Dreamcast versions graphics are crisp and sharp like the arcade counterpart where the X box version looks blurry. The menus are more crisp and defined on the DC version as well. And the DC version came out over five years ago. I just don't get it. Five years later on another "superior" system...

That's weird. You think gamespot really would have picked up on that discrepency. They were really nitpicky with capcom classics.

To do an proper test then you must use the X2VGA+ on Dreamcast aswell, since Dreamcast use it's native VGA screenmode if you use the "Hais" wich ofcourse will make it crispier looking than X2VGA+.

You can't compare the quality of two different systems visually when you're using two different third party products for connections. There's no way of knowing if the difference is caused by the VGA boxes rather than the actual systems or the quality of the ports.

Thats the point, the xbox has no native VGA out. Component output alone is not as sharp as true RGB/VGA, and converting it with a transcoder is only going add to the fuzzyness at 480p (31khz). This is also why the gamecubes progressive out is inferior to Dreamcast (i.e. Ikaruga, SNS2...)
