Currently I tried to 1-ALL DOJ WL, going through stage 4 and dies quickly in mid-stage and I tried it over and over again and still stuck in this stage.

Also played Gradius IV normal mode and can go through moai stage and dies in "regenerating" sections, while dying in here is impossible to recover and instant game over and then I give up.

There are many games that I think I could clear, in fact I want to clear the Japanese version of DonPachi (cleared the US version once) but I keep dying with bombs in stock on the last stage

For me, 1CCs have happened as a result of practice (with save states) and I think that in shmups (and in many other situations) practice can get you anywhere, i.e. world records or 2-ALLs.

Incidentally there are many arcade shmups I've practiced with save states and DOJ is one of them. I've gotten up to stage 5 because of practicing.

if you really want to clear something then figure out a route
just random practice without knowing what you're actually doing doesn't get you very far

Post of the year! Yeah I’m in a similar boat with getting distracted but I’m nowhere near 108 items. I’ve only made it to Gigafacer a couple times and I just want a shit-clear at this point, then I’ll go back to play for score. I used to play Karte and Solobang, but I’ve switched to Golden and Birthday. Who do you use? This deserves a thread!

I'd also like to know how hard it is considered to be. I can get to Stage 4 on Boost and typically Stage 3 boss on Arcade. I'm relatively far away from clearing it, obviously, but it is the game I would have the most interest in putting in the time to clear.

easier in terms of dodging TLB aside
way, way more strict in terms of having to play well

cave 1st loop is around 20-22 mins, CCWI is 38 or so and you get only 1 more life than your usual cave game (just like ketsui)
it's not hard to not die, but when you do, it hurts your chances of clearing a lot and the game is long enough for stupid deaths that sometimes happen

But especially a 2-ALL of Cho Ren Sha 68k (I've gotten so close but I need to practice the second loop more), and Crimzon Clover Arcade Original or Boost (Unlimited would be nice too, but I'm pretty far from getting anywhere with that).

I think it's too long, i guess it's around 30-35 min, depends on the ship type and the amount of milking/destroying parts with good multiplier.

unlimited with all the slowdown is 42+ minutes

I stick with Karte now. I've invested too much into getting good at completing all the item sets with her that it's just not as fun playing as anyone else. I could probably do a pretty lazy clear with any of the other characters at this point but I just have to have my treasures.

But there's a list of future 1cc's I want. Every dodonpachi for instance, espgaluda 2. Raiden IV, an R-type game.
Ketsui 2-ALL and Battle Garegga are a distant dream.

Working on doj bl at the moment, I'm very close to clearing the first loop. The main reason I haven't yet is that I'm not playing it as much as I usually would this close to a 1cc. I am looking forward to doing this one though.

Fast striker: been super close quite a few times... Just got too pissed off and gave up, this was a couple of years ago now though, I've learned a lot about my play and learning style since then.

Under defeat: requires a much more precise style for me to able to do this one. No extends make this one a bit more of a ballache...

I will 1CC Gradius V one day. When I was playing it regularly the backwards-scrolling section of level 6 was always too much for my Type 4 Viper.

Back then though I imposed the ridiculous limitation on myself of no stage select, no credit feeding. If I went back now I'd practice the shit out of every stage in isolation before trying the 1CC.

Like I said, something must be off with your saturn version difficulty settings. Try the arcade version and see if you see a difference. It's easy blind 1-all material.

A lot of my want list is just a result of me having too little time and making too little effort. Metal Black is topping it right now, just gotta serve my time with it.

For the out of my ability range stuff, I really want to clear 1943. I can scrape my way to Yamato, but that thing is one of the most terrifying final bosses I've ever encountered in a shmup. After that I want Gun.Smoke, but I'm just not sure I'm manly enough for it... yet

I 1cc'd Espgaluda 2, which isn't exactly a cakewalk....

If you're not using Iceman (Type C), try that. I've had trouble getting further than stage 3 (with Type B), but I just tried Iceman for the first time and got to 2-4. The Dodonpachi-like spreadshot/focused shot controls in addition to the homing shot helps a lot in the first loop.

Right now its probably Ketsui but it seems so far out of reach that I haven't put the time into it.
