Sony BVM-A20F1U with zero hours???

Post by brichardson »

First of all, big thanks to everyone posting about Sony BVM-A monitors, you've been a big help getting me setup and on the right track. Now, I need to pick your brain...

I just bought a pair of BVM-A20F1U monitors, which came without option boards (input cards). I bought a couple of BKM-62HSs to put in, and used a BKM-15R to navigate the menus. Both monitors read ZERO hours. Now, I understand that the "CRT hours" can be reset through the Maintenance menu, but does anyone know if the "Operational hours" can be reset? I don't see any way to do it, but I'm having trouble believing that I just got two circa-2008 production monitors with ZERO operational hours. Now, like I said before, they didn't have input cards when I bought them, and all the port covers were there, so is it possible these monitors were truly never used? I can see evidence that the case has been opened on them, but don't know much more than that.

Bottom line: can the operational hours be reset/manipulated? If not, what would a working zero hour BVM-A20F1U be worth?

Thanks!

After an hour's use, will the counter show 1 hour?

Who did you buy it from?

Somebody more familiar with the BVM structure will have to comment on this...I would expect it to throw an error if the NVRAM is bad, and there to be other problems as well. My guess right now is shenanigans.

I've been using one of them actively, and it is counting usage hours just fine. I'm inclined to suspect shenanigans as well, but for what purpose? The monitors were listed as "not working" on eBay because they didn't have cards installed and the seller had no way to test. I could ask where they got the monitors from, but I have a feeling that wouldn't shed much light. Overall, I just don't see why someone would even take the time (no pun intended) to manipulate the counter. Everyone expects these monitors to have tens of thousands of hours and are still happy to get their hands on one. Just thought someone more knowledgable might understand the situation better...
