PVM Geometry settings

Post by moltomolto »

Hi all, first time posting here, so please be gentle

I acquired a beautiful PVM 20L5 recently, but there are some issues with the geometry. When I use the 240p test suite, some sections of the screen curve inwards, so it’s not a perfect square. Hope that makes sense. Sorry for no pics, I can upload later if necessary. The settings menu has so much going on, with wording I’m really not accustomed to, so I’m a bit unsure how to go about fixing this.

How do I fix the geometry to be "even"? Couldn’t find any info online either, so apologies if this is a really dumb question.

Is it something than can be adjusted via the settings, or is this some kind of hardware issue, where I would have to repair/replace parts? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Sure - almost probably - via the service menu. [Hidden menu]

^ See section 2 of the service manual (not a regular manual)

Entering the service mode
Simultaneously press the [ENTER] key and the
[DEGAUSS] key shown on the display of the menu.

Most sony's have some kind of code/button press to enter...Fortunately you don't seem to need a remote for this one.

Be careful; if unsure of what/ how to adjust then write down the current settings before changing.

But yeah it's basically a comprehensive menu system to alter all the things that people like us want to and no one else wants to worry about :)
