Sony PVM-1954Q Adjustment

Post by ecarrilho »

Hello everyone!

Recently i bought a Sony PVM-1954Q in a very good shape, and working fine. But after running 240p Suite, I noticed that the image is slightly shifted to the left. Running the grid pattern test, i see that the squares of the upper right corner are a little dark and curved too. I've tried all options on service menu, but i can't solve this issue.

The picture isn't too good, but it's something like that:

Another doubt it's about white balancing. Sometimes when i'm playing, the picture is too bright. For example, the image is ok, but when i move to a stage that is bright (for example, White Land on F-Zero) the white level increases dramatically.

Sorry if the questions are stupid, but i'm newbie on PVM.

Anyone help it's very welcome.

Thanks everyone!

You should be able to work out the geometry fairly easily but the slant looks quite bad to me to be honest. There aren't any OSD options for rotation in this PVM series so any attempts at fixing this will involve opening the unit, and there's a lot of potential to mess things up there.

The white level issue sounds new to me, I've only ever had the issue of a too dim picture. Unless you checked all the regular menu options it sounds like a component failure somewhere, or even cable related? If you are by any chance using an official SFC RGB cable, these are known to routinely have bad caps in them.

Thanks for your reply!

I watched the videos and make the proper adjustments but i start to think that i have some component failure. The left corner and bottom it's ok, but the right and top don't.

I took a more closer picture and seem's that a missing line or "cuted".

Thanks again!

Hi!

The slant looks really bad. I watched the videos and made the proper adjusts, but the problem persists. I made a adjust on convergence rings of a arcade monitor that i had and it was quite simple. But on this PVM i won't try, unfortunally these monitors are very expensive in Brazil.

I use good Scart cables, purchased on http://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk. Even Wii or PS2 on component suffer the white balance issue.

The bad news for me, in case of component failure, is that i hardly will find a Sony technical assistence for broadcast monitors.

Thanks again!
